Don't know how many of you saw this on the main board - http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=606317&highlight=my+gas+tank

Got my new Drake tank installed last night. Except now the fuel gauge isn't working, go figure  Oh well, at least I should be on the road now. I will road test it tonight.

KBS coated the area where the tank sits, will do the rest of the underbelly some other time.

Looks good. I'll have to do that to mine one day if I ever get it running.

Just to track down things, did you put a 12 to 6 volt regulator in the "hot" line going to the gauge? Check for voltage at the sending unit and make sure the ground wire is attached to a clean area with no rust or paint. Now I'll throw this into the mix just because I don't remember anyone posting it,almost all the aftermarket suppliers offer 6 volt and 12 volt senders so since the gauges are reduced to 6 volts which sender would be correct? Food for thought and future reference.

Yes, the gauge is reduced, but not the hot line to the sending unit. That's getting 12v and it is a 12v sending unit. I've heard the new rheostat sending units can sometimes be buggy out of the box. I only put 4 gallons in it so I think I need to put some more gas in it to tell for sure.

If you can remove the sender thru the access panel you might check it this way, attach a solid ground wire to the sender have an ***istant turn on the key and watch the gauge while you work the float and see what happens.

Looks good! I was lucky enough to save mine, didn't have nearly the amount of scale you had tho. I did the POR-15 treatment (kit) and it turned out great.

Looks like a great install! My tank was about as bad as yours, plus someone had tried to put a liner in it, and that was falling down (obviously, they won't stick to rust!) haha. It was a nasty experience. I was surprised the car ran

I went with a different route on gas tanks though, but that drake looks good in there!

Thanks guys! I couldn't believe how much **** was in that old tank. I had planned to have it boiled out and then add a liner, but when the **** just kept coming out I figured what was the point! They could boil it out and it could fall apart or come back looking like swiss cheese.
