there is a really clean 66 impala in my area that was donked. real shame too. that car WAS nice....

  6. Too late guys, they are all over SoCal too. If you ever drive the 110 frwy in LA,you'll see them everywhere. My theory is the "bigger is better" crowd couldn't get the 24" and 26" wheels under their cars. What do you do? YO,raise da mutha fuka homes! I was getting new tires for my LIFTED 1/2 ton chevy, when these two "homies" came in and asked if you could put a rancho suspension under an '96 Impala SS. I laughed and they gave me some "HARD" looks. The guy behind the counter said, why?. There was even diecast "DONKS" at the Hotrod swapmeet in Long Beach Ca. I don't know what looks dumber,26" wheels on a lifted '85 ElCamino,or 13" Daytons on a '05 Caddy!

  7. Did any of you guys who went to Paso happen to see the red Merc with the tilt front end,Lambo doors and 20" wheels? I know somebody has a picture. I took one just because I know nobody would believe me. I can't find the pic. Maybe that's better.

My buddy who does airride also does this for those who ask.

He doesn't like it, but it averages about $12,000. for the lift, labor, and wheels/tires.

    And lambo doors...on anything:confused: He's doing a 02 Suburban with 26's and Lambo doors now....

He says he'll take their money all day.

  9. I must be the only one on here that kind of likes them.

They remind me of cars I drew when I was in early grade school. They have a bit of that jacked-up gasser look that all the cool cars had in my little town. I was born in 1961 and spent the 60's in Fort Dodge, Iowa before moving with the fam to Minnesota.

Another way to look at it is that they are finding a way to annoy the previous generations in a new way. Many of those in my generation (but not me) have done that.

    EDIT: fixed typos.

About a week ago I saw a 70's caprice classic done in this style. This was the first I had ever seen of it I had no idea this was a new fad just thought the guy was a dumb ass. Anyhow I stopped next to it and laughed until I had tears in my eyes just as I was about to take off again this gangster lookin guy charges out of the house with his hand in his belt. I didn't wait around to talk to him.

Its getting almost as bad in the Dayton Ohio area,I have seen 26s installed on many but none with that kind of suspension modifications. If that 65 galaxie would come in the shop for a top replacement or any other interior work I would refuse to work on it as I would have nothing to lift me up. Jeff

Cleveland, Ohio too. Saw a super mint 71 Grand Prix in the air with the big ass cartoon wheels on it. I didn't have time to wait and see how many clowns would jump out of it!

If I get next to one in while driving a hot rod I will challenge him to a race down a curvy road. It will be fun to watch the center of gravity take over.

Maybe "DONK" is the sound it makes when it lands on it's side!!

Maybe if you squint real hard they might resemble a 70's "Street Freak" but I can't see anything that reminds me of a Gasser..... more like 'Tonka'..

Now the clowns own the streets

FYI, they're generally called "Hi Risers" and they get classified as Donks, Bubbles, or Boxes depending on the body style. As long as it's just a 70's or later P.O.S., I don't mind them so much. I say good for anybody that's willing to be different and have a car that isn't some silver/gray jellybean (full disclosure: I own a silvertone gray 2004 VW GTI). The only problem is a lot of these cars DO have a lot of motor in them and all that rotating mass of the rims on those rubber band tires is a really bad combination.

  20. There's certain types driving a few of these retard-mobiles around here also. I seen one go through an intersection at about 45-50 on a yellow light, when he hit the tire ruts in the center of the intersection it started skating like it had no travel at all, it fishtailed one way then the other & was almost sideways, I thought sure he lost it. It shook & rattled so loud it sounded like a dumptruck. If he would have lost it, the bumper being about 40" off the ground he would have dozed somebody right in the windows frames & killed them. Idiots. If I was a cop they'd have multiple tickets every time I seen them.

  21. Rolling DOT violation just waiting to get caught.
It's funny they will right a ticket for two cars on a trailer and hauling on a wooden deck but I have yet to see a cop standing in front of one of these with a yard stick and his ticket book.

Funny, used to happen quite a bit in the fifties and sixties.
