Hey guys... Scroll to the bottom, it looks like edelbrock started re-popping the 553 and 573. John http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/mc/manifolds/ford/flathead.shtml
Hmmmmm. Very Very Very Tempting. After I drive mine for a while, I might have to save up for one. Love that set up.
Since there is new interest in Y-blocks lately, maybe Vic will come up with a RPM Performer intake and heads so Mummert won't be the only game in town.At one time Almquist had a 2 X 2 Y-block intake.
I have one of the Edelbrocks & Offy 3x2 intakes for a Y block . I sold them when I decided to go with a 302 . Another good intake to try to find is an Edelbrock square bore standard size 4 bbl intake . It will accept a modern carb . They show up on ebay now and then . I have only seen one of them before . The multi carbs are very nice to have and is really fun when you are cruising down the road and decide to open the outer 2 carbs ! That really does take off and pull hard too . That's about 700 cfms of extra fuel ! It was good to use the smaller Holley in the center and use the bigger ones on the outsides . That way when you drove around town the gas wasn't too awful bad until you mashed the peddle to the floor . Then you took off and the gas gauge went to "E" ! Jim
I wonder how much these will bring? I doubt I'll ever need to ****** one up, I'm content with my offy set up, and if I want to go fast--I'll practice what I preach and go FE. Neat idea anyway! Edelbrock finally hopped onto the retro train.
Although I don't have the Y-block in mine, it is pretty cool that our cars are getting some recognition by the larger companies. I did however just get the dual quad performer series intake manifold and carb set up from Edlebrock yesterday and man that thing will look great on my 351W sitting in the little blue customline. This summer I will tear the engine down and do a full rebuild on it, paint it white and get this new intake and carbs mounted up. I'm pretty sure this thing is going to look great by the end of summer. Well, the engine will look great.
Although it is good to see some new interest in the Y block... I must admit it is a bit sad, half the fun was tracking down these cool old parts, now you can just pick up the phone and get one. I did find an original 573 this past summer and am glad that I did, gotta keep the old parts alive. John
Custom Crestline , They will bring from about $225 to maybe $300 . You really need to be careful of cracks especially on the front bolt head tabs and the thermostat area that tended to corrode out badly . Also check the center tabs that are held down by the cup washers , so they aren't all dug up badly . Those were suppose to be the best flowing of the 3x2 that were made . The Fenton looks really good too ! But from all the ones that were made I still think the Offy was the nicest 3 x 2 intake made for the Y block ! There were a couple other made but are very hard to find . 54 Hotrod , You said you got a 3x2 set up for your 351w . Did you also get the spacers ? The 3x2 were made for the 289 & 302 . They didn't make one for the 351w unless they just started making them ! There were a special set of spacer that you could buy so you could put the 3x2 intake on the 351w . If Edelbrock is making them please let me know . I have a 302 and would love to have one for that engine if someone has one laying around ! Jim
