I'm looking for some ideas on making new vintage-looking faces for modern gauges. I've taken apart plenty of old instruments, but I've never actually broken into a modern unit of any kind. Is this something that is even generally possible? The actual project in question that I am working on is my '59 Crestliner boat, but I figured my fellow hot rodders would be more keen on this subject than the crowd in the boat forums. Because nobody makes an affordable tach for old mag ignition two strokes like my '59 Johnson, I'm planning on using an Equus induction pickup tach. As far as I know it's the only analog inductive tach on the market, but while it is retro-ish, it's just too modern looking. I would also like to make a matching speedo using one of the cheaper analog GPS units available from Speedway. Thanks in advance for any pointers!
