  1. Works fine for me. (1280 x 1024)

I can see both ends of the arrow.

Say . . . what the heck kind of a bow do you use to shoot a double ended arrow?

    Must be hell on bowstrings.

I hear you nocking . . . with apologies to Gale Storm....

    Excellent I fit!

    A quick Tip:

Forgive me if I am wrong. Just trying to help.

Wouldnt it be easier to make a webpage that uses javascript to detect the screen resolution.

Since many people use Internet explorer and it will make the image fit to the screen it may not be an accurate test.

Then people can copy and paste the screen resolution there using.

    Example:

    http://50chevy.com/hamb.html

Click on the link and it will state your screen resolution.

    Hope that helps,

I guess I'm "money." Why, I have no idea. But, if it means alienating a group of 17% to 18% of the HAMBsters then I guess I can wait for whatever time it is that you desire to delay this new fangled thingee. No big thing for me.

Before I even say it, I know what a ginormous pain in the ass it is, but you could always move switchable CSS stylesheets and let each user choose their preferences to fit. Like I said, I know from many past experiences that it's a whole lot easier said than done.

    BTW, mine is 1440x900

  7. 1280 X 960 here. Bring on some more line! :D

    17% of 13000 is <2200.

If you make the switch, I'll bet 50% of that 17% don't even notice they have to scroll...of those that do, I'll bet most of them can fix it themselves. If not, their kid/neighbor kid/local geek can.

For those with true dinosaur systems - and let's face it 800x600 is nearly TRS-80 ancient - they will cope somehow. Hell, I coped with an 8088 running at a blistering 4.77Mhz with dual 360K 5.25" floppies running DOS 3.0 and a 2400b modem until 1996!! I upgraded because I wanted to do things faster than my 2400b modem would - not because I needed to.

May as well offer a text-only version if we're going to worry about legacy systems...

Good thing people like Henry Ford didn't wait until everyone had a horse & buggy before they introduced cars. ;)

I can detect by java script and I can build versions for different resolutions, but I would rather not... Too hard to keep up with both designs...

    ---------------

I'm thinking I will most likely put it off a bit and try to get this new feature working on the 800 x 600 format... I would like to get the number of 800x600 users below 10% before I make the move.

Three words - WIDE SCREEN BABY. I love my 65" widescreen TV, so when I saw Dell's wide screen laptop, I couldn't resist and ain't looked back since. Hell, even my desk top is gold with the arrow test.

el chuco, is that a traditional arrow now?

For once I'm not in the minority and I still feel left out. Make the change Ryan. That 16% will come around. Besides, there are still dozens who insist on posting HUGE photos that cause EVERYONE to scroll...

Mine just fits. I am good. Maybe some of those 16% are not still on the board or are not big users (once or twice a year guys). just think 84% of the users are wanting you to do the upgrade.. and some of those 16% can make adjustments to their screens and font size to fit the arrow, that makes probably over 90% that it will work for. JUST DO IT

Are you able to tell from your system which users are using the old stuff so you can verify the last time they logged in...??

    Ryan,

Here at Yahoo we've already begun to explore beyond 800x600 territory. For example, check out the new front page www.yahoo.com

    Go for it.

  19. It would be interesting to find out how many that don't want the change to happen right away are realistically thinking of upgrading there systems in the next year so that they will be able to deal with the change. Why don't those who say they can't access the new features also state if they are planning an upgrade. If most are not how long do you wait to try and get the number lower?

    That is exactly my case.
We've wanted a new system for a year or so but won't know if we will be able to budget one till after tax time in April.
Till then I'm looking at a 15" daig. screen, thru bi-focals.

    It doesn't matter.
    Go ahead and do it.
Already, half the HAMBer's personal sites tell me I have to upgrade before I can even see their front page and Fokti just shows me blank boxes instead of pictures and Youtube is a useless inanimate blank screen...
Make it worse so I'll have a real excuse to just turn the computer off and go outside and play.
    Please.

Mac users with OS X and Safari can increase screen resolution (System Preferences under the apple in the upper left of the screen, then Displays), then we can increase text size with the "apple" key and the "+" key. Make it smaller with "apple" and "-". I'm not sure about System 9 or Explorer. If I wasn't such a lazy S.O.B., I'd check on my old G4, but Mac users can test it and see if it works with what you've got.

  30. Change it. My 19" screen sucks anyway....I need bigger.
