New fraud law affecting Oklahoma (and really everyone)car owners..

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ls6man, Oct 12, 2007.

  1. 1953 - Corvette, Buick Skylark and Olds Fiesta. My '53 Skylark, the trim tag seemed to be attached at the factory with phillips head screws. It was definately an original Skylark and it was wrecked and junked when it was less than 10 years old - back then an unsual, but outdated old car.

The law's a great idea, but the guys who tear them down to the last nut and bolt and can make them look right when they're done, it will be business as usual - except they'll pay more for original trim tags. I noticed when I had a '59 Chevy convertible for sale, that if you had a tag for one that showed red paint and red interior, it would bring $400 on eBay for a business card sized piece of aluminum. If the car had air, too, probably would bring more.

This was the first thing I thought of. Many '60's British cars such as the Mini, MGB, etc., as well as the '69 Camaro and '67 Mustang fastbacks will have the tags swapped from a rusty pile that won't be worth restoring otherwise.

I'm all for combating fraud, but I wonder if the politicians in OK realize that those data plates usually have the VIN/Serial Number stamped on them as well. Both plates/stamping would need to move together.

I would never buy anything that says "numbers matching" in the ad anyway. Who gives a shit. Cars are not an investment in my book.

The people who chase after numbers matching cars are sick people. They are developmentally disabled, and possibly even retarded.

This law will protect the retarded from themselves.

  16. Can I get in? Not sure if you 2 know who I am......... Im the guy who didnt buy the original Cadillac jack that wasnt for sale.
Lemme know quick, Boyd is after this baby.

  17. what if your trim tag was switched say ...35 years ago then what?

  18. Like I said, the high dollar cars that can be torn down and built to look right, especially those there's no records to tell what VIN got what options... business as usual. How can you prove a '59 Chevy was built painted gold, if every bit of gold paint is removed and replaced with red paint, and the tag is swapped with rivets that look correct? The same goes for having a 348 tri-power or a six-cylinder, except the trim tag won't address that.
