Well good Afternoon HAMB, I've been lurking in the shadows for awhile and decided that now was a good time to make an account and show what I'm up to and maybe get some help with a few questions.

Well to start with I'm probably one of the younger people on this site getting into some of the old school customs, but probably not the youngest. I'm 26 years old Graduated college with a degree in Physics and Mathematics and now I'm working with my father in his shop.
We specialize in metal fabrication , hotrods , restorations ,race-cars , custom cars , if you can think of it we can probably build it.

Been interested in cars and helping my dad in his shop since i was "knee high to a grasshopper " . Thou they may not be applicable to the hamb crowd ive restored a few cars myself before deciding on my next project which will fit right in though has been done countless times over. In High-school i wanted to restore a car rather than buy a car, i wanted to imprint my version of cool and unique ( and in retrospect this was a terrible idea ) and so i choose my first car because "hey , you just don't see any of these around ( and probly for good reason ) ". So first car was a 1974 911s and what was supposed to be a 2-3 year restoration.... instead it turned into a 6-7 year restoration and i only finished it after i was done with college which is unfortunate considering the gender ratio of my college was like 3:5 b:g . Then 2 years ago i wanted something "different" than a Porsche because in all honest its not that practical a car for someone in their 20's so i got a 1979 jeep cj5 and want to make something i could take anywhere and do anything with and not care if the car next to me might hit it with their door. So a finished that project over the winter and that was actually fun to work on because it didn't have as i call it "hitlers curse" associated with it AKA German engineered wiring. I got it done in the spring and shortly after i was driving into to town behind a 51 mercury and it just looked "right" ... don't know how to describe it other than "right" .

We have done a couple 51 Mercury's for a customer over the years and we always enjoyed working on them because they were just really cool cars after we were done. I just couldn't stop thinking about Mercury's and that's about the time i found Hamb and started looking at all the really beautiful customs from past to present and decided this was going to be my next car. Spent the next couple months looking for a 1951 mercury project for sale.. went to look at a couple.... some way more expensive than i needed and couldn't justify buying only to cut up... and others....not save-able or at least that's the nice thing to say about them . Finally after a couple months found 2 cars one in South Carolina on craigslist the other on here , the South Carolina car looked really solid but was a 4-door car but look perfect and the price was right. The second car was significantly rougher but was a 1949 2-door ... but it was in Missouri but considering finding one locally was proving a venture in futility; i called both and never heard back from the south carolina people ( they called me back a week later but that was too late), but heard back from a HAMB member named Merctruck and so myself and my dad loaded up the trailer and left to go buy a Mercury. The car sat in our barn since last fall and now im starting on this project and hope to be done by end of summer/fall but i have the feeling it may take longer :D

I plan to start a build thread for it once i download all my photos and have time to write up what ive been doing/planning so as not to make this post longer than it already is.

On an unrelated note does anyone have a photo of a light blue mercury 2-door with a chopped top , straight b pillars and 57 cadillac hubcaps it was one of the photos that got me thinking wow i want to build something like that. I think it was in a section called Best chopped mercurys of all time or something similar but i cant find it since the site changed to new format.

    Thanks for your time ,
    Matthew
