Just was informed about this terrific site. I raced back in the '60s. Started with Stu Bloom racing my '55 Chevy in D/Gas. Then had a Henry J B/Gas. Raced at Woodburn, McMinnville, Madras, Port Orford. In 1964 joined up with Cordy Jensen when he converted his A/Comp to an A/Fuel Dragster with 377" Hillborn injected Chevy. Ran in the 8's. Next year we purchased a Woody Gilmore chassis, a Columbia Racing Engines 392 Blown Chrysler, installed a full body, and proceeded to have all kinds of fun and spend all kinds of money. What a blast! We had great sponsers in Bev's Steak House, KPIR Radio, and Huffman's Grinding, all of Eugene. Raced all over the Northwest and Southern California. Lots of match races. First race ever for this car was at the March Meet in Bakersfield. Hired Big Bob Haines to drive. Cordy drove from then on. We had great success for a new team. What a good life , still miss it! Does anyone have pictures or info about our cars? If so, please let me know. Thanks
Welcome aboard, Bob. This is the place for traditional hot rodders and kustom ground pounders to gather and share what they know and have. If anyone has any info or pics, they will probably PM you or post them here.
Hello Bob. I remember your name. I have a picture of the Klan display at the Eugene Car show with Cordy's roadster body dragster. Had the small block in it at that time. I talked with Ace when he was in Eugene to sign stuff at the car show back in the early 90's. He said he was going to try and see Cordy. Welcome to the hamb.
Welcome! This thread should be of interest to you: "Great Oregon Racers" http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=662536
Thanks for your note! Is it possible for you to email me the photo of Cordy's roadster? I would love to show it to him. Email address is mccaberanch@hotmail.com Thank you!
Bob, You are going to have a good time on here. I remember you guys with the Chevy Dragster at McMinnville, when Cordy would pull up to stage,it had a wicked rumble and shake as it cleared up, never have forgotten that. I loved the "Bev's Steak House" car, didn't Cordy go 206 at Port Orford, quite a shock for those folks! I have a flyer from Mac with a good picture of the car in KPIR livery, I will see that you get a copy. You guys have no idea how the racers of that era inspired me! Welcome
Welcome Bob,, I am an Oregon transplant to Texas,, born and raised in Astoria till '59. I knew a lot of the racers in that time and went to school with a couple also. I see that SquireDon has already posted the Oregon racers thread,, good read.
I know a old racer in Eugene that has all kinds of '33 on Willys parts and bodies, including a pickup body. Do you want me to contact him about your request? Bob
Bob, Do you have the "Rodder's Journal" # 50. On page 70 there is a double page picture of the "Bev's Steak House" taken at Puyallup, you are leaning over the front of the car, great shot ! I noticed it had a 4 hole Hilborn Bugcatcher injector, compared to the Enderle "showerhead" on the flyer I have.
If you are referring to me, and my signature line, yes I would appreciate any help locating a truck cab. Feel free to PM me. Thanks!
Welcome from McMinnville-----I remember the Bev's Steak House car from my raceing days in mac. I moved across the street from the Airport and on a clear night i can hear the roar of the racetrack (in my head), sure miss those days.
