Hey everyone- I just picked up a '33 Plymouth coupe, it was an old race car from way back. My father used to race the same model car at the New England tracks in the late 50's early 60's back before I came along and ruined the fun...I'm going to bring it back to life as a replica of his old ride (he's in his 80's now) and surprise him with it. It will have a '57 230 flathead and I'm going to need a ton of advice starting now if you can! The car doesn't appear to have the stock front axle although it uses the stock front spring fram mounting points and the perches line up (I thought the front axleis tubular and this is an I-beam, pretty beefy) and I know it doesn't have a stock rear, has a GM stamp. Bolt pattern on front wheels is 5 on 5 and rear axle is 4.5 on 5. When it was converted to a race car it was clearly set up with a SB chev and a powerglide. Can you help me identify what I have? Thanks for your time.
Thank you Jimmie- Do you think I should post the pictures to another part of the site to get more eyeballs on it, looking to ID the front axle (maybe it is stock, I just don't know) and the rear end under this car so I can start looking for brake/suspension rebuild parts. My immediate goal is to get it up and moving for him with the stuff it came with so he can go to the old-timer track shows around here, and eventually upgrade with a newer front/rear dropped suspension to put it on the road. Gonna keep the flattie though! - Mike
Welcome to the HAMB from Illinois. Great car with a great reason for the project! Honoring your father with this build will make it all the more meaningful and fun for you. Keep us posted. Ed
