Can someone help me please. Would like to use a 1932 Ford repro original style turned dash insert, but cant seem to find any new gauges to fit those size holes, they are 1-7/8" and 2-7/8". Anyone point me in the right direction ? Thanks
If you are going to use modern (aftermarket) gauges I think you will need to enlarge the holes to 3 3/8 and 2 1/16 inches. What were your ideas for gauges?
The Late Randy Nash (deuce roadster) modified the original insert and used SW gauges in his 3 window. HRP
I made some spacer rings that would fit on the later gages to center them in the dash. The gauges got a strap across the studs and I put extensions on the original dash mounting studs. This allowed me to push the gages forward against the dash. It did not involve any cutting of the dash and I had late SW gages
Just found this, blank '32 made by Vintique. I'll be cutting my own holes then ! Thanks for the help guys
The aluminum dash insert in my old coupe. I think was made by Jones? The VDO gauges fit in a recess on the back. Most of what you saw on the front were the faces of the gauges.
@Kim Leonard Out of curiosity, which Stewart Warner gauges are you considering? There are a lot of good options out there. With a '32 something to contemplate would be using era correct gauges. They will really add to your car/dash. If you have questions on certain gauges, let me know....I'm one of the resident "gauge geeks" here. Below is just some food for thought........ ---------------------- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - Old gauges can be restored. They are of such high quality that many of these relics that were made in the 1930's thru the 1950's still work and provide accurate readings to this day. They can also be sent in for rebuilds and calibration if need be. I sold this one a while back, but here's a 1932 SW Script Speedo that would be appropriate for your application. I am certain us HAMBers could find you one if you're interested. Here's a SW Script tach that would go nicely as well. Here is a Stewart Warner (rear mount) temp gauge that would look incredible in your engine turned dash panel. In the early 1930's MotoMeter also made an excellent rear mount temp gauge. Here is a great example of an Oil Pressure gauge. I have included a few links below that's some fun reading. Hhere's mine. The insert was pretty bad so I just painted it. Enlarged the two gauge holes with a die grinder. Stock Speedo.
Yes, there are plenty of older gauges that would work with a little tweaking. Here's mine with some '50's S/W Wings gauges, where I enlarged the factory holes slightly. They work great & seem quite accurate.
