Welcome from Arkansas. It's great to see families sharing the p***ion of a common interest. My daughter ( tattood_mommy here on the boards ) has also shared a interest in everything automotive, be it 4 wheel or 2. Her knowhow has served her well as a single mother! My stepson is also infected with the illness ( currently building a '57 Bel Aire ). All 3 of the grandkids are car nuts, too.
Have you looked into adult education? Many areas have some kind of night or week-end cl***es with courses in automotive and welding. You might also check with a local welding shop. One of these might let you hang out and obsorb.
