Hi, I'm Dropkick Mary. I own a 1955 Ford Fairlane which up until this point I was still rolling with my stock Y block. Unfortunately, my Y-block decided she wanted to retire so we are working on putting a 390 in. Once Fairlane gets her transplant complete she will be my daily driver and our family car. We put seatbelts in the back and she does her job keeping our 3 kids safe and comfy.
Welcome to the HAMB. Come by the 52-56 Ford social group, its the best one on here. If you need any help the guys on that group will answer any question nd blow your mind with the knowledge flowing out of their brains.
face down in the gutter wont admit defeat, though his clothes are soiled and black. hes big strong man with a child's brain don't you take his booze away.... welcome.
Welcome from Hawaii. I like your idea of dropping the FE in your Fairlane. Post some pics! Sounds like the kids have the coolest ride to school!
Welcome! I'm working on a '55 Fairlane 4 door that my parents bought new. Mine still has a ways to go but getting there, named the car Ozelle after my mother. Looks like you've got a pretty solid car. Just one caution. Check the front crossmember directly under the radiator, the one that the front legs of the lower A arms attach to. Those crossmembers are notorious for rusting out on '54-'56 Fords and Mercs, resulting in front suspension failure. One of my cousins wrecked a '55 because of that. Crossmember was weakened by rust to the point that the lower control arm bolt pulled through the crossmember. I had to replace the one on my '55, not a hard job. If the front end and steering box are in good shape, these cars drive great, and you don't need power steering with that big steering wheel to give you leverage.
He is a lucky guy. LOL Thanks for the heads up on the crossmember. We'll check it to be sure but Fairlane really has very little rust except in the trunk. I got really lucky when I found her on craigslist. I am getting really anxious to get the 390 in and get back on the road.
Welcome from the great white north to you and family. My two girls grew up in the back seat of my 38 Willys. Now my grand daughter cruises with Gramps.
Welcome from SoCal. My second car (back in my misspent youth) was a '55 Ford two-door sedan and I did the very same swap you're contemplating. Worked out slick. The only problem I remember was the throttle linkage, but it was easily fixed with a cable setup. Good luck.
We'll be using a Weiland aluminum 4 bbl with an edlebrock on top. (I had to ask the expert. I'm happy to wrench and get greasy but I'm still learning ) Thanks for the advice on the throttle linkage. What transmission did you run with yours?
