I've got a '53 Ranchwagon with a seized-up six cylinder and three speed with overdrive. Basic car with the only unusual option being the accessory steering wheel that I hopefully can get restored. I want to go with a 300 Ford truck six with a Clifford dual quad intake using 2 barrel Holley or Autolite carbs. Also thinking about a Fatman subframe, 8 or 9inch Ford rear axle, and a Mustang 5 speed.

Looks like lots of good information and helpful suggestions here.

Kerry , welcome to the group ! I am a Ford engine builder and I really wouldn't use a 300 engine . They aren't the best out there and are gas hogs ! They are also big and very heavy too ! Yes they have decent power but you might want to consider a earlier engine like the 200 . They are common and are good engines to have fun with . The trans you have now is a very good trans . They are sought after as well . Also an 8" rear from a early Mustang , Comet , Maverick will work well and fit nicely too . A 9" is way overkill plus you will have to cut them down to fit unless you are lucky and find on from a Cougar or Mustang ! If you have any questions just shoot me a PM .
How about some pictures of your project ?

You are going to have a challenge with a 300 because of it's length, the 52-56 Fords can even have problems with engine length with the 302-351's with the later long water pumps. So you want something different but Ford in a Ford consider this, the supercharged 3.8 V6 from a T-Bird Super Coupe you might also want to check out this site for 6 cyl alternatives www.fordsix.com Welcome to the Group!

Yes the Ford has a Dana rear BUT not the Dana you have today ! They are different and they are an 8" rear also but nothing will swap into that rear . Unless you are building a high torque engine , that rear should be fine . I was just giving you some options when you posted about maybe swapping out the rear for a 8" or 9" rear . I do have the list of all the interchangeable rears that will fit in our 52 to 56 Ford nicely ! Also if you want something to really help you with you build , I have a CD disc with all the information for the 1949 to 1959 Fords that show illustrations just like the parts stores have ! $12 to your door ! I have sold a lot to many of the people in our group ! Cheaper than Ebay ! If you have anymore questions about anything or the CD disc just sent me a PM and I will gladly answer any and all of your questions !
