Hi the name is Tony im from new england (Rhode Island).Im 33 years old, married ,father of 2 .A toolmaker/designer in the day and a bouncer at nite at a local college bar.I used to run a francise speed shop about 10 years ago but it was mostly colored wipers and ground fx kits nothing kool or bad ass, built a few muscle cars with freinds but none my own.I just got a 54 buick century for 300$, would like to make it look cool.I like the low dollar, blue collar look; as that is what my oldman always had back in the day.I would like to do most of the work myself in the driveway any help or input would be great...here she is. Ps. Sorry for other intro don't know what i was thinking?.
Tony. Nice intro and welcome. Looks like you've got a nice project there. May I make one suggestion? Use caps and puncuation in your sentences. It's makes them easier to read. Keep us posted on your progress.
Well, Stresser, I'm still not sure that's a good intro, but at least you found the rite forum. As for the "low dollar blue collar look", simply paint it flat blak, paint the wheels red, throw on some wide whites a Mexican blanket interior and slam it...you'll be stylin' with all the rest of the "follow me" cars/owners on this board...b-o-r-i-n-g! Now if you want to do something different, remove all the emblems and door handles (fill the holes), find a set of radial whitewalls and spinner caps, drop it mildly, slip in a tube grille, add a set of pencil tip dual exhausts, fill the interior with T & R and repaint it a nice shiny color... But then again, I'm old school and I actually lived in the late '50's and early sixties when REAL hot rodding went on! That's my suggestions, do with them what you will... FWIW, welcome to The House of HAMB! R-
300 dollars!? i hate you guys! i gave $350 for a 50 bu 4 door that aint worth savin! i wish i could find tin like that around here. 40stude saw pics of mine, he can tell you, its a piece of shit, what a score. oh and by the way, welcome to the pit.
Welcome Stresser;one of my pals is gonna be giddy that theres another Buick Boy on the block! try to avoid the hijackers and ignore the mud slingers and you'll be OK (PS)shhh...i agree with40,dont tell anybody, shhh! the Reverand
slight shave...lowering and the right wheels Perfect..and some body color on that massive front bumper! Cheers MAIKI

[/ QUOTE ] Ok now since when was that an "Original" idea. That style is just as played out as the mexi claded, red rimmed, comin atcha wid that flat blacka style. I am not slammin either style. Chopped, dropped, flaked, tubed, frenched, is not "new" to anyone either. It's just a more expensive way to do a "Traditional" ride. If I saw 100 flat black rides roll into a show I wouldnt be disappointed. Just in awe that 100 cool cars showed up and that there was a creepy coincidence. And take a shit load of pictures.
I've always wanted to see zoomies sticking out of the portholes on those 50s Buicks. Kind of a P-51 Mustang look to it.
I'm pretty new here myself. Nice Buick. They make a great ride. Doesn't look like it needs much. Welcome aboard.
And I'm one of those sick individuals who think 4 doors should be shortened into cartoon 2 doors. Take a chunk right outa the middle for a shorty 2 door Buick.
and after.....I bought this ratty 53 Nash just to cut into a really different coupe....back burner project
[ QUOTE ] Ps. Sorry for other intro don't know what i was thinking?. [/ QUOTE ] Guess I missed the other intro, but welcome to the HAMB anyway. Looks to me like you work to much I've always worked in the driveway, bad place to paint, but it does get the attention of the citizens. This is the place for the answers. Be careful though or you could end up with a high dollar low buck blue collar ride The buick is a good starting place.
Rite on BuickNailhead...just shows how this board works..."Cool" is many things to many people of all ages... "OK, now since when was that an "Original" idea..." Stresser didn't say he was looking for an riginal" idea...he was after a "blue collar look" like his Dad had...I submit his Dad would have had the look I suggested...the flat blak look is of late--within the last ten years...neither traditional nor original! Your "100 flat black rides roll into a show...in awe that 100 cool cars showed up" shows your mentality of what defines a "Cool" ride...now if I was at that same show and 100 shiney nicely painted cars showed up, I would think that was "Cool"...I told you I was old...and lived in a time when primer on hot rods/kustoms was ONLY gray and flat blak wasn't even used for BBQ's! There are no ORIGINAL ideas out there anymore...it's all been done many times over throughout the years...and YOU BuickNailHead, are simply FOLLOWING the crowd IF your car is flatblak with red wheels...grow up...think with your head...think INDIVIDUALITY!!! R-
Hey stresser, welcome! I'm new to the board, too - and am pretty local to you (I live in Boston). I just moved my chopper shop down to Freetown (on the New Bedford line) - about 25 minutes from Provi. Nice score on your car, man! Wicked Pissa! I'm in the process of butchering (in a good way) a 1950 Chevy Fleetline. I know a lot of the local rodders, we have access to a lot of resources, so feel free to give me a hollar if you ever need a hand with anything.
I much prefer Pastel Mint Green (with magenta scallops, BTW) over any flat-blak or follow-me RESALE RED (unchopped) FORDS any day Aaron...and that's NOT a decision! R-
40StudeDude: OH SORRY DIDNT KNOW THERE WAS A SET FORMAT TO THIS INTRO STUFF ,PLS. FORWARD ME YOUR DESIRED FORMAT AND ILL FIX MINE ... As for the "low dollar blue collar look" Buy low $ blue collar i mean it literaly .My family consume most of my funds and i just like the home built look thats all no red rims no flat blk(maybe flat blue flat flames) maybe chop (if i can figure that out ) who knows im new remember Now if you want to do something different, remove all the emblems and door handles (fill the holes), find a set of radial whitewalls and spinner caps, drop it mildly, slip in a tube grille, add a set of pencil tip dual exhausts, fill the interior with T & R and repaint it a nice shiny color.. . Thanks for suggestions . But then again, I'm old school and I actually lived in the late '50's and early sixties when REAL hot rodding went on! That's my suggestions, do with them what you will... So were not worthy if we weren't born in the 50's.with real hot rods.. ok what ever FWIW, welcome to The House of HAMB! Thanks for the welcome....I guess? R-
Stresser Welcome. Always nice to see another Nailheader. I've been tearing up 54 to 56 Buicks for a couple of years now if you need help I can tell you all the mistakes. LOL. Judd
Stresser, "PLS. FORWARD ME YOUR DESIRED FORMAT AND ILL FIX MINE ..." Don't think you want to see the format...it's not pretty. "My family consume most of my funds and i just like the home built look thats all..." Hooray for you...your family should come first...too many guys (including me) don't get it sometimes. "So were not worthy if we weren't born in the 50's.with real hot rods." Nope, didn't say that, didn't intend for it to be interpreted like that...goes back to the first part...paint it flat blak...no one used flat blak when I was hot rodding in the fiftes...we used gray primer...you can build your car ANY way you want it...and I really don't care if you feel worhty or not! The welcome WAS geniuine! R-
One more from "Little Rhody"..........welcome "smallest town in the smallest county in the smallest state".........CT.
I'd make it look stock with a killer 455, TH-400 and a positraction 12-bolt. I'll bet C9 could give you some good big block Buick tips.
Thanks to every one for the welcome. Are there ant other unwriten rules i should know about. 40studedude :are you this course with all the members , or just the young new ones to the scene.I would imagine that since you were there the first time around you would have some good insight and valuble info which i would welcome. However i didnt piss in your yard ...Soo please dont piss in mine . best wishes:stresser
Hmmm, isnt it amazing how the written word in interpreted? Stresser, the answer is no I didnt realize I was being coarse didnt realize 33 was young and new , also didnt realize this was a scene and certainly didnt realize I was pissing in your yard However, perhaps you should go back and reread my posts I thot I did give you some good insight and valuable info into how I thot your car should look you stated: I would like to do most of the work myself in the driveway any help or input would be great... I offered how the flat blak look was overdone tossed in a couple of simple suggestions money-wise since you were looking for the "low dollar blue collar look" and do most of the work myself, then complimented you on your family values and WELCOMED you to this forum you come back with So were not worthy if we weren't born in the 50's with real hot rods ? This is YOUR idea of a thanx for your input? Grow up a little more. R-E-A-D the posts for what they are develop a thick skin its like real life around here, not everyone is gonna bend over for you just becuz youre here. Stick around if youve got the balls, there IS some good valuable stuff to be learned even from old farts like me if you LEARN how to read the posts. Oh yeah, how bout this for a typical young guy lame tag line: HAY !!!How about a nice cup of shut the fuck up!!!!! Nice, very nice All rite Stresser, how about a nice cup of dont go away mad, just go away. R-
