I am going to reverse the eyes on my stock 36 Ford pickup. I have read about taking a leaf or two out. Which ones and what do you think? Thanks Ron
We learned to reverse the eyes from an old mag. article(brain fade). Pretty simple to do if you have an anvil , a couple big "C" clamps, a long spring center bolt and something to cut the safety "curls" off the 2nd leaf. Oh yeah and a BFH. !st you would remove the shackles( careful) and the U-bolts , using a pair of C-clamps , remove the old center bolt and relieve the spring tension by loosening the clamps. You would then trace the arch of the mainleaf on the floor/cardboard/plywood . Now the fun begins , using a hollow portion of the anvil slowly hammer the leaf until the arch is reversed, a ton of beating but work slowly or find someone with a large pressbrake and make hits every 1/2" or so. Refer to your pattern often and by the end of the day you should be done. Cut the safety curls from the 2nd leaf ,leaving a little room at each end for compression. You would then use your long center bolt and ***emble the pack , you may have to use your C clamps to help. Trim the center to length and re-install . It should drop the car about 1 1/2" to 2 1/2".
