Hello HAMB! I've been a long time lurker but until haven't had a HAMB friendly ride. I grew up in the Austin area surrounded by my late uncles street racing and hot rodding stories, not to mention his 426 Hemi in my garage and my older sisters hot rodding boyfriends. Always dreamed of seeing that Hemi run again, but it went the away along with the GTX convertible it came with nearly 20 years ago. I still watch BJ to see if it rolls across for bid. But it inspired me and as a dumb a _ _ 16 year old I was lucky enough to purchase the Doc Eisland roadster campaigned out of the Shreve Automotive shop inthe late 50s. I purchase it complete minus the engine. I had big plans for that car, but a smart man threw a large load of cash in my direction and it went home with him and I purchased a cherry 1971 Roadrunner. I soon found the car was parted out after I sold it , and to this day I regret that mistake. Luckily the ch***is was sold complete and was seen for years in the Austin area setup as a rail with a blown flathead. I kept the tracings of all the lettering and plenty of detail photos and vow to someday recreate the car. I have been a early Ford and 60's altereds nut since I was 10. I have been to every Lone Star roundup and remember standing in awe of the Waco Kid on setup day at Palmer Auditorum the year Steve W. first brought it out. The story that car could tell! Lots of projects came and went and I even completed one or two, but it wasn't until recently that I landed one worth keeping. I purchase a 1957 Chevy truck last month from the second owner. My sons and I plan to build it and be the last family it has. It is very original and clean, so other than a repaint, tuck and roll and al***ude correction, it won't get much. I have learned a lot from the HAMB, especailly the history lessons. I look forward to learning a lot more.
I hope you and your sons build a cool truck and great memories. I have my son and daughter hooked and it is a great hobby to bring families closer together. I lived in Houston back in the 70's and wish I was in Austin to be near the music scene.
Welcome from New Waverly, I have a '57 Chevy car my dad bought for me a week before I was born, it was our project. We restored it, I drove it to high school and I am now 40 and still take him for a ride in it. The car will be p***ed to my daughter and she knows its hers.
Welcome from north Austin! You should come out to the Dog and Duck pub on Monday night. We should be there again in two weeks. It's always nice to put a face to the name. So looking at your screen name, I have to ask.... Do you have a Jeep?
