Hey, just thought I'd say hi,
I'm looking at building a hotrod in the future but I need to learn a bit more about em first so thought this would be a good place to start. I'm currently driving a VW Type 3 which has been done in a Kustom style with a flake roof and pinstriping/gold leaf etc (and is as low as practical for our rubbish bumpy roads)which is a great car:D I need to convince the missus we need a hotrod as well (and also buy a house first:eek:)
I kind of know what I want and the plan is to slowly collect the bits over the course of a few years, I'd ideally like a model A Tudor or Coupe but have also seen a few shots of some T Coupes (I think that's what they are, still quite new to this), There's one on page 5 of Julys Ol' Skool rods which looks great but I can't find too many pics of the coupes.

  4. Welcome to the HAMB.....you'll find these colonials quite agreeable in the most part!!! just don't mention you have a VW!!!....Just tell the wife
"you can sleep in a hotrod just you cant race a house!"
    ps I have an A!!!!!!
pps you going to Billing this weekend??? ..... if so drop in to the Ray-Gun Industries art show stand so we can point at you and shout "Fucking new guy!!"

  5. Oi....less of the colonials bit.....

Not sure if I can get to Billing this weekend, I'll be at the Hayride though, I've never been before but I've heard very good things.
You may be able to sleep in a hot rod but you'll never fit all my missus clothes in one so I can't see her going for that!
So what would you guys reccomend to build as a first rod? It needs to have a roof and be easy enough to get hold of parts for, which would be best, the A or the T?

  8. Buy a finished (or at least on the road) car ....cheaper than building (over here at least)...have done it twice after building too many cars I really didn't want.
As are brilliant....coupes are more expensive than tudors but I like them both.
    T coupes are rare here .. only 2 or 3 I know of.... T sedans rarer...only 2 I know of...
for a 1st rod look at pops...they have to be the best buy going.....don't know how old you are but plenty around with pintos and rovers in..starting around £3k for sumat needing paint and interior (if thats your thing)....billing usually has some good cars for sale......Building as car....work out your max budget and the time you want to spend building....then double both!! not a joke!

Haha, I've encountered this one before unfortunatly! Hopefully will be doing much more of it myself this time, I did all the monkey work on mine but all the important stuff like welding was left to the pros. Hopefully I can make the budget go further this way:cool:
Wonder why the T coupes are so rare over here, did they just make less? They do look cool and I'm not really a fan of the roadsters mainly because of the weather, I also prefer a bit of metal over my head:D

    Howdy from Oklahoma.

  13. what I was quoting was if you do nearly all the work yourself!!
the A I have has around £35k in parts alone.....and all the work was done by the builder...3000 hours of it...OK the roadster I have is fucking top notch but I paid half the price of the parts for a finished, top end car that is so good it's been exhibited at goodwood festival of speed. Trust me when I say buy a finished (or at least on the road) car and then spend money getting it the way you want it cosmetically it's the cheapest way and will keep your enthusiasm going as the car will be usable. Building a rod isn't like building a VW. nowt is gona bolt together and everything will need twice as long to fit as you think...even after you have modified it to fit the way it should!!!! Talk to other rodders (have you joined the NSRA yet www.nsra.org.uk join the forum and chat to others) and get a real opinon from lots of people before doing owt. what I don't want to see is yet another unfinished project on rod and classic mart and another rodder lost!
T coupes just wern't popular here at all as rodder fodder as they anr't traditional hotrods like T buckets, As, Bs etc also the size is quite small compaired to A,and bs.....Langy has a glass coupe body currently and he may be able to tell you who has the moulds!

  14. Ha ha colonials! You guys just never get over it do you. Actually, I think it's the poms who are being colonised these days.

Apart from that, welcome. Just don't mention O.S.R. again.

  15. I don't mind VWs. Got any pics of the Type 3?

Saw this one earlier in the year and thought it was great!
