Hey guys. Fan of the forum, but did not join till I wa s a car owner. Just bought a 31 Ford Model A pickup. Its in the middle of a complete restoration. I bought it before the guy was going to chop it up and make a ****ty rat rod out of it. the only problem is that it has no ***le. This is going to be fun. Any advise?

Welcome from a fellow So Cal Model A guy. My Dad is building a '31 P/U now too.

Do a serch, this topic is talked about very often here on the HAMB

If the car is complete when you get it, even if it doesn't run, you can apply for a ***le. You will have to take it to the DMV so that they can verify the vin. They should use the engin number for the vin.

Your money is well spent going to a "Registration Service" as they know the ins and outs of dealing with the DMV. Use one that is authorized to verify vin number.

As added insurance to make sure that you can register the car, get the engine number and have a registration service check to see if the number is clear. You will probably pay them a couple of bucks for this service, but if you take the car to them to do all of the DMV work they should credit that search fee to your total charge.

The whole thing cost me @ $150 over the DMV fees, but as far as I'm consirned it was money well spent to not have to deal with the retards at the DMV!!!!!!!!

Above all make sure that this doesn't look like a shady deal. Low balling the sale price is the biggest mistake when people apply for ***les. It is the first thing the DMV will look at. After all they really don't care if you get your car ***led, they just want the tax revenue.

Welcome to the HAMB! And thanks for saving another old piece of tin from some disillusioned and demented person. Good luck on your project. Yeah, in between the pain and frustration it will be fun.:D
