Hey everyone. New to this group and thought I'd say hello. Also had a question. So I have a 53 customline. Mild chop. Lowered on blocks in rear and cut springs up front (question about this coming up) it's got the original 8ba offy intake 2 94s on top. 12 volt car. Now for my question. I'm planning on doing the aerostar spring swap. I know I can do it without a compressor because my current springs are so cut and saggy. How do I get the lower arm to drop and let the spring out? Everything I've read has been for mid to late 50s fords with ball joints so not sure if it applies. Thanks guys and excuse my ignorance of these early suspensions. My first time messing with something like this
Put a jack under the lower A frame and remove the two bolts from the cross member then lower the jack. There may be shims in there. Mine did.
A lot to read but a lot of discussion here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...coil-springs-49-thru-59-ford-and-merc.260795/
Yeah this is one of the first threads I read through when I found out about the swap. Lot of good info. Thanks
I read that whole thread, but I am still a bit confused. Did anyone mention a p/n for the front and rear shocks for the 55-56 Fords? I saw a lot of stuff for the earlier years. Maybe I'll try and read it again. I bought the springs, I just need to acquire the rest.
I'm going with gabriels 82026 in the front. They're a little shorter than stock so if the coils are the only drop you're giving it and if the shocks mount the same as earlier years you could probably run those. Looks like a lot recommend the kyb 5514 or 4503 gas-a-just too
On my 1953 the Aerostar Springs went in with very little compression from the Jack required. There are (2) Bolts in the Front & (2) Bolts in the Rear of the Cross Member. (Each Side) Easy Install!
4503 on the front and 5517 on the rear. I did put Mr. Gasket shock extentions on the back. I needed the extra droop to allow easier tire changes.
