Just an everyday guy here in South Carolina who has been foolin with cars since the late 50s, sometimes knowing what Im doing and sometimes not, But mistakes are great teachers. At age 10 (1958) was recruited by some neighborhood rodders to****ist them (as gofer), at 12 started helping a man who had a small garage doing engine building and swapping, then came the "little pages" R&C and HOT ROD, the addiction became permanent. In the 60s I had several early '50's cars with Olds 394 and 331 Hemi swaps (well, not "true" rodding swaps, there were plenty of bolt-in aftermarket mounts and adapters in the early-mid "60's). Did the Mopar muscle car thing in the '70's as the rod thing was changing not to my liking. Tried AACA in the '80's and went back to real cars but by 1990 could not resist changing my car to my taste and needs, so was "expelled" by AACA. Have a Stude with a sbc 350/350 swap (it had a clutch but after two different stage 3 cancers and resulting hip replacement the old left leg isnt up to the third pedal anymore). Bought a 53 Chrysler Windsor eons ago from the original owner and started to restore it by sending all the plated stuff to a plater in Monroe, NC who burned down in 89 along with all my stuff. I bought the Stude then and did the swap a few years later.Have been a lone wolf for years as the $$$$-billet-techno-rods were also a turnoff. Now that I see lots of Oldss and Buicks of the 50s I would like to do the now fully dechromed Mopar, keep the stock suspension with different front shock mounts and dump the fluid drive 6 for an 8. Have a couple of sbc 350s in the garage I could use. But since when you find a Firepower in a wrecking yard the guy knows it is gold and prices accordingly, I am considering a B/RB Mopar wedge as it IS a 50s design, cheap, and still a goer. But enough for now!Y'all feel like home, am glad I discovered y'all. Am rusty and have forgotten alot but will help anyone I can and will keep my mouth shut when I can't. Glad to be here, Thanks y'all.
Bob, Thanks, glad to be here. Will post pics once I master that techno skill (soon, I hope). Appreciate the welcome!
Welcome from another SC fellow...... Lived in Greenville for many years, then Charleston..... now in Columbia for the past 30 or so....... There is a couple Hamber up your way....a few here and some more in the LowCountry... Learn out to post photos.....
Appreciate it! Glad to know of a few HAMBers in the area. Definitely will add some computer skills to my "wrenching". Hoping to get something up and running to do GGs at Charlotte end of October. Thanks for the welcome!
52 Panel, Appreciate the welcome! It's a '64 Stude Commander (the one restyled by Brooks Stevens of Excalibur fame), with the "upscale" Cruiser interior. Anyway, its from San Bernardino county, CA, and is rust free with the very faded original paint (a hersheys brown, friends here call it chickenshit brindle). Has a '71 350 with Iron Eagle heads (200cc), flat top hypereutectic pistons, moly rings, "pink rods" (or so the seller told me) with ARP bolts, ARP main studs, '69 z-28 pan and windage tray, Edlbrock RPM intake, Edlbrock carb (my Holley 4778 is on vacation, I keep switching when I get peeved with one or the other), TH350 with TCI rebuild kit, shift kit and convertor (done by my brother, the dude who likes to bench press tranmissions into place). I've tried to sell the '53 Windsor several times but never got a phone call or email, one. Its an original with a near mint interior, original green paint with some "orange patina" that I'd hate to paint over, and fully dechromed thanks to the plater (a blessing in disguise). It looks a lot like a longer '53 Chevy. Anyway since it's too nice to just send to a wreckiing yard (that's heresy to a true HAMBer), I thought I may sell the Stude to get funds to do the old Mopar the way I would have done in the early '60's. Ah, decisions. Thanks for the welcome, appreciate it!
