Hello everyone. Not new to the HAMB, or hotrodding, but new to this group. I picked myself up a 1952 Mainline last Monday. Its got the flathead V-8, 3 speed column shift, and its been lowered a bit too. I'm happy to be here, and I will probably be asking lost of questions since this is my first flathead. I look forward to learning lots!
Welcome! Lots of first-hand knowledge here. Many of the cars of my yout' looked like yours, not like those in the California little books. Primer, overlay skirts, dual exhausts with echo cans and stolen hubcaps. Not as glamourous as the West Coast kemps, perhaps, but every bit as cool.
Hello and welcome. Wow - 566 members! You're a****st a great group of folks and their/our mid 50s Fords! Ron
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I do have a Speedway catalog commin. Does anyone happen to have a pair of hood hinges layin around that they wouldn't mind gettin rid of? Mine are sprung and I have to walk the hood closed.
A wet Welcome from Oregon! This may be the best group of car nuts you may never meet! A ton of talent on hand to help you with any need you may have.
Those hood hinges are like gold. They turn up on eBay every so often, but are pricey when they do. Your best bet is to repair the ones you've got. The most important step is to be sure the bolts which fasten the hinges to the hood are the correct ones, and that the threads in the hood are in good condition and still straight and the metal around them not ripped or bent. Repro bolts are available on eBay as well as other places. Good luck!
So I've heard about the hinges. There is a guy in the cl***ifieds that might be sellin a pair for his buddy, just waitin for the price. Right now I don't care what it is as long as they're in good shape. If I can't get my hands on em, I will probably be askin for some pointers on hinge repair.
It's kind of shakey buying used hood hinges over the internet, even from the factory they were weak and unreliable, the 1952-54 Ford and Mercury hinges interchange. If you get lucky and find some lube them on a monthly basis, there is a guy that has been rebuilding them and beefing them up, Google: Roland Hall you can send Him your old ones to rebuild or buy them outright, quite a few guys on 1954ford.com have used them with excellent feedback.
Thanks JeffB2. I did buy a pair from 1hot1954 today. I will check that guy out for sure to have him rebuild and beef up the pair I have now. Any more info on Ronald Hall? I got quite a few results from Bishops to MDs. I highly doubt either a Bishop or an MD would be rebuilding hood hinges, but hey, ya never know.
OK, so the car finally has a name. I wanted something either sinister sounding, or something that had to do with moonshine, since the car kinda looks like a shine runner. I've been mulling over a few when my wife comes up with it: "Thunder" because of the movie Thunder Road. That, and it is pretty grumbly soundin.
firerod,I left out the "w" in his first name it is Rowland Hall phone is (818)845-3574 He is located in Burbank,CA
