Hello to all members, just found this site and from all indications it should be a real kick. I am from Pine Ridge S. Dakota, close to the Badlands and on the Nebraska line. My main interests are finding and rebuilding flathead ford V8 motors and the old hotrods. I have a bunch of projects going on. My wife thinks I lost my mind but I am happy as a fool at a carnival. My first car was a 36 Ford Coupe my dad won in a poker game in 1953 or 54 and I run the wheels off that one, then I got a 49 Ford, souped up the flattie in it, and blew it up one night running the cops towards the Nebraska state line. Didn't quite make it all the way. Right now my main project is my 31 A 5W Coupe. It is an old 50's built hot rod that needs some attention. Just pulled the motor, late Flathead V8, and 3 of the pistons were totally rusted away. Building a 49 Mercury motor for it now, will be basic street rod when I am done. My daily driver is a 1952 Ford F1 Pickup that is about 90% done, needs paint and upholstery and a few minor things like a ring job. I can post a few pictures when I get that part figured out. Later, george...

You live close to the Badlands? I thought this was the Badlands. Welcome.

Hey, George, welcome aboard. Did you happen to go to that show Sept 24th in Mitchell, SD?? The one with Bo Huff as a guest?? Perhaps I took a photo of your ride there. I was there in my purple '47 Olds convert.

Welcome George. You may want to change the term from street rod to hot rod for this board though :D

Thanks to all for the welcome, looking forward to reading and contributing to the site. I would like to post some pictures but haven't quite figured that part out yet, seems like I have too many pixels or something. (hotrodladycrusr) I missed the Mictchell show but made it to Flandreau which was real good. Can you send me some pictures of your 47 Olds ragtop, that has got to be rare. (blown49), yeah I guess Street Rod means the trailer queen type nowadays. We used to call a street rod a hot rod that was street legal back in my early days but I like the hot rod tag better and will use it instead as suggested. Keep it between the ditches.....31ACOupe

Sorry I didn't get back to you but lost the thread, just figured out where it was. I am building 2 motors w/merc cranks now, one for my 31A and one for my 53 Merc Tudor. I do have another crank but it is presently stuck in an old motor I am tearing down. Really stuck. I have been lubing it up and working on it for 6 months or so. I have no idea what condition the crank is in and won't know until I get it tore down but it looks nice from what I can see. I am making progress but right now the block is under a foot of snow. Send me your e-m address or phone number and when I get it out I will check it out and let you know if it is for sale. later, george:cool:
