Hi folks -- newbie here. Just lucked across what I believe is a diamond in the rough, and am guessing you all can tell me more about what I have here. This car was raced until 1978 or 79 by a gentleman here in IL. He just passed away, and his widow sold me this car. I am more of a Triumph guy (cars, not bikes) and play with old diesel Mercedes once in a while, but this was just too cool to pass up.

I am hoping that motor will loosen up in time (wonder what's under those MT covers?), and that the Hilborn FI will work again. In/out box is a CAE. No magneto can be found, but I am getting spare rear end gears with it, a few extra wheels and tires, and a few bits & bobs. I hope to have the car home this weekend and can dig in more then (and post more pics if anyone cares to see some). I'd like to make this car run and maybe freshen it up just a bit and let it relives it's former glory (if only up and down the alley behind my house).

    Thanks in advance

Wow, great find! Very, very COOL!!! Keep us
posted as you tear into it. What are your plans
for it??? Also, if you can post some more details,
somebody here on the H.A.M.B. will probably know
a bit about the history of this car. Good luck with
    it.

I live out in the country and have a bit of room. If this were mine I'd get it running And use as the world's best stress remover. Can you imagine after a bad day to take it out and sling it around a home made flat 1/4 mile oval for a half hour or so? I'm betting you would forget all about any bad "moments" the day had thrown at you.:)

    Wow what a score!!

My friend runs a sprint car and Ive helped him run it a few years. Its neat to see what the new ones have evolved from. Can you imagine driving that for a 30 lap main event with 20 other straight header cars on your ass with dust and mud flyin'.

I would love to find a sprinter from that era. That is when I was a kid and used to go watch them a fair bit. It was the "glory days" for me.

Great find, get it running, have a ball and most importantly keep it as it is just clean her up.

  21. Frank I'm with ya on that that one brother.

I'm in town here but have enough room to build myself a 1/8 mile track in the back and I'll bet my neighbors wouldn't mind a bit if I let them fly it once in a while.

Small block, belt driven pump, big bell stacks. Looks like a hoot.

Great find. Those vintage sprinters are just sooo cool. Good luck with whatever direction you take with it. I think the above posters who mention the vintage sprint car (pre 1969) thread are on the right track, someone will know some history on this sprinter.

    Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Pretty Sweet Alright! Wonder if anyone has an idea where the radiator might be from. I could use something like that, low and fat.

Gents -- I have come to the painful realization that I am NOT going to be able to play with this car as I had hoped. Since posting these pics, I have had time to pop the plugs and headers and spray penetrating oil into the cylinders... and nothing more! It's still just sitting in the garage. An 18-month-old daughter (and another baby on the way!) will do that: no time for hobbies! If anyone's interested in this car, I'll sell it for $950. It would need to be picked up here in Central IL. Otherwise it's going to sit in the garage for a looooooong time 'til I can get good & greasy again!

I hate to do it, but it's time to face reality and send her on to a good home, if one can be found. Shoot me an email at my username @ eiu dot edu if there's any interest. Thanks all!

I'd do some homework first. I don't know anything about these cars but aswell as being complete, it sure has some choice parts on it. What would that injection sell for on it's own for a start? Don't think that will hang around for long at that price, if i was based in the US i'd have it off you without a shadow of a doudt!

    Good luck
