I'm Jim, Ive started on a 47 coupe(fleetmaster). Ive never worked on anything this old. Plus Ive never built a old school hotrod! So far Ive put in a CE rear spring kit and installed the rear end. I have the new 350/350 combo in place with CE******* and engine mounts. Now what in the***** do I do about hooking up the steering? It still has the original front end. Ive bought a new chrome column from the local swap meet. I cant seem to figure out if I should put headers, ram horns, or zoomies for crying out loud! Any one got a pic of how they done it back in the day? looks like I'm gonna need a dozen universal links with no way to stabilize them.... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Soon as I figure it out I'll throw some pics up
Welcome. I would post your question on the "main board" now as this one is****led for introductions. We'll need to know what front suspension you have. I'm****uming stock. I have a 48 coupe in the works myself, but with a subframe. I've always had good luck with the rams horns. I usually mock up the steering linkage using 3/4" wood dowels. You'll have to fab a bracket for a support bearing if you have more than 2 u-joints in the steering. I'm sure somebody has done what you are asking about. Just take one thing at a time. Sounds like a cool build so far.
