Tried the "easy off" trick on the roof since it's going to get paint tomorrow (HELL YEAH!) anyway and it left a " ghost" image of the stripe so I'm ***uming it's been on the car a while and so the rest of the car has faded a tad , so the door pinstripes are staying for now. :(

But I'm super stoked it goes in for roof paint tomorrow!

Didja see all the codgers put the horn to their/our ears and say,"Eh, sonny" when you mentioned 20"s

Thanks! Yeah I sure did! I understand though...it's not "traditional" but I just like the look. I've actually decided to not go that route though since I've seen a few of these cars bagged with smaller wheels and fat whitewalls and I'm diggin that look even more!

please no wheels bigger than 15", traditional rules, big hoops are for Donks. A 54 Chevy is NOT a donk. Congrats on a cool car

Yeah, the more I see with 15" and fat whitewalls, the more I'm hooked. I think big wheels are out of the equation now....but I still do like em when done right :)

I'm not an old codger but I'm glad you're changing your mind about those big wheels. I think some chrome smoothies would look sweet

    nice car.
what about those big wheels with the whitewall built into face of the rim?
    they at least look traditional...

for the record i'm not convinced they would look okay with the shape of today's low-profile radials and my vote would actually go towards a black rim with a WWW like this

Thanks! Got them on eBay. Guy had a listing for like 15 of them and I messaged him and asked if he would break them up. Got 4 for 175.00 shipped.

I have the 18" Detroit Steels on my '53 Bel Air (err...I mean...I KNOW a guy who knows a guy who has them). I don't think you want any part of the 20"s. On a 3" drop, even the 18's are dicey fitment. I have to camber in the fronts in order to be able to turn full-lock. I haven't driven it yet, so we'll see if that's even enough. But I hear ya...totally not period correct, but I think they suit the car beautifully. I also get why people hate them...different strokes, I guess.

Good to know....I've noticed a lot more people running 18"s on the 53'....54's so I figured there must be a fitment issue. I'm actually set on the 15" with fat white walls for now. Seen a few pics on line and now I'm hooked. Plus I already have them so that saves me some $$ for other things...
