HI. I'm the new guy on the block, and was told to intro myself. I've been peeking in the window but haven't been able to jump in with a custom project...up until now. First I live in La Quinta CA, It's about 30 min. east of Palm Springs. Wife and a 4 month old little girl,Evelyn. I've been on the edge of having enough cash to get something but you know how things go. We moved, got knocked up, bought a home, wife lost job, (I think there's a country song ready to be made here [IMG])So now I've got a work truck paid buy my boss, so I am geting rid of my Bronco for ???. I've got a guy who would trade for a non running 50 shoebox thats straight but I think I'm giving up to much for to little...So any help or advice will be great... This will be my first time so get ready for a lot of dumb posts. [IMG]

  2. Welcome. We won't hold the left coast living situation against you. My advice (and with this and $4.50 you can get a small fancy coffee at Starbucks) keep the running Bronco. You have a job because it pleases your boss to keep you employed. That could change tomorrow. Then you'd have no transportation to look for another job. A shoebox is cool enough but it won't keep the baby in diapers if the boss has a bad day and decides to take it out on you. Never depend on a work vehicle as your primary means of transportation. Besides if you want to keep that young wife happy and free of cabin fever she'll need wheels to get to the grocery store or doctor's office. If she's trapped at home you can count on all her pent up anger and frustration being directed at you when you get home. Been there, done that. 'Nuff said

Just bide (sp?) your time on the project, I see lotsa stuff out your way from cheap to reasonable.
    Hang out and learn.
    Welcome,

    Welcome to the HAMB

It sounds like you are looking for any way you can squeak by to get a custom project going and I can't comment on that without being a total hypocrite. I hope you can work it out.

All I can say is if I remember right you sure don't want to end up out of work and having to ride the SunBus.

On to the positive stuff- Those wide and smooth roads down there are filled with navigators and benzes and I would love to see a custom shoebox cruising around some time I visit. If you can swing it, get started, but it is a long road and you will get there eventually. Keep us all updated.

  5. You've picked the right place!

Sell the Bronco and buy a running project car.

Work on it as you learn... but don't tear it down to the point where it cant' run for a week or more...

And feel free to ask questions!
    Sam.

    Welcome!
Your life sounds like mine. House, wife, 2 kids, dog, and a 85 toyota 4x4 as a toy. It is getting harder to go off roading these days with all the ECO. freaks in the world. So I sold it to get my 59. Much nicer people in the Kustom world too.
Sell the bronco and buy a running car to start. Keep checking the HAMB classifeds. Usually some good stuff on here with a good price to get you started.

I wouldn't rely on the work truck to be my only ride. My wife rides in an explorer and I got a 93 FLHTS to putt on (I can't sell the scoot cause my wife will cut my neck in my sleep [IMG])So it dosen't need to be a runner. I guess I'm acting like a kid again getting to excited about a new toy...Damm obsessive compulsive dissorder...Damm obsessive compulsive dissorder...Damm obsessive compulsive dissorder...Damm obsessive compulsive dissorder...

Well, now that you cleared that up. . .

if the trade is good- and it only is good if the car is solid and straight and a coupe- then go now, trade the guy, put it in your garage, take some photos, post them and we'll all walk you through the rest step by step.

in the immortal words of henry rollins (just around the time he started getting really tiring) . . .

do it, do it, do it, do it , do it, do it, do it. . . . do it!
