Hot Rods new hamber and need help

Hey all.new to this and want to see if anybody knows 54 olds hydramatics. Got one behind a big block in a 59 impala.had trans rebuilt and a 1 piece shaft made. Got home and it wont go into park.i know when u throw it in park or neutral and shut it down no fluid pumping means parking pawl engages.but it aint. So is it an adjustment
on linkage maybe? It has an old ansen shifter if that helps any.

 

I don`t think 54 olds had park.

 

That is what I was going to say. I had one in an altered and one in a Rambler with an Olds in it and as I recall there was no park position.

but I thought I read that you shut down in reverse, and it makes the pawl lock?

 

I just looked on Wikipedia and they confirmed no park. What you did was shut off the car then put it in reverse to lock the shaft, sort of like park would.
