Hey guys, I'm 20 years old and live in central Jersey. I own a 1939 Pontiac 2-door Sedan, straight 8. I've been doing body work now for 5 or 6 years, mostly on muscle cars and now trying to get into the older stuff more. Back when i started, i worked in a restoration shop as my first job. My boss had an old Pontiac sitting over to the side of the shop. I asked him about it, and he told me its for sale. So, I inquired, and ended up buying it. I brought it home, got it running and basically, it sat for a few years, until now. It's finally time to put my muscle cars aside for a little bit and start the Pontiac. I'm trying to decide what I want to do to it, but I have no idea. Only thing I can really think of for now is painting it flat black, slapping a windshield in it, bolting the old interior in and driving it as is. Any suggestions?

Good to see some other young guys from Jersey. If you're ever down south stop by and grab a beer. We've got a shop in Blackwood that at least a couple guys are always there at any given time.

thanks, I'm sending away for QQ plates now, hey anyone know what I'll need to convert to a 12 volt? Heard I can just use a GM 1 wire alternator and everything should work and not burn up. All I've got to do after that is fix the E-brake, slap some flat black on it and throw some plexiglass windows in.

That car is WAY too cool to paint flat black!!! :)

I'd go with a gloss dove grey paint job, gloss black steelies with chrome caps and wide whites and just dress the straight 8 flattie up a little...those engines will damn near run forever! Not big on POWER, but very reliable!!

Ha Ha...did you actually drop an AMC 343 into an old Gremlin or something?! Just curious about the name!!

    Welcome aboard!

haha, yea I did throw a 343 in my 73 Gremlin. I just took it to the track yesterday for the first time actually. Ran a 14.9, my first time racing and I went real easy on 1st gear, has a weak tranny in it. any good way to dress up the 8 alittle? I'm trying to put all the ideas down and decide where to go from there. [IMG]

  12. Another 'welcome to the HAMB' from just up the road. 'Very nice ride. I suggest you check out some of the cars shown on the HAMB before painting it flat black. I'm with Fat Hack, go a bit classier and make that car really pop!

nice ride, I bet that gremlin is fun! I worked at a local amc dealer and got to beat up alot of amx's , although I'm a ford guy the 304-401 amc motors were surprising . glad to have some more central jersey guys. Bruce

Paint it white, flat white if you want. Red wheels, trim rings with no caps, wide whites. Drop the front to give it a nice rake.

Build a multi-carbed intake out of tube, real easy. Split the stock manifold and run dual exhausts with cutouts behind the front wheels. also if you're feeling ambitious, mill the head to up the compression.

Maybe add some old speed decals in the rear quarter windows and pinstripe the flat area under the rear window.

Also maybe paint the engine gold, pinstripe the firewall in red and run without a hood.

Thats how I would build it. Welcome to the HAMB.
