Hello, I am from Winterset, IA. I have a 1951 Plymouth Cambridge club coupe that I am planning on rodding a little. Right now, it's all stock but needs a lot of attention to the interior and brakes. It's a 218 flat six with a 3 speed on the column. The engine runs really well for being 54 years old and the body is in really great shape for an Iowa car. I'm trying to decide what direction to go with the car. Whether to use a 230 flat-six with a T-5, or to go with a 1964 Chrysler 361 big block and push-button auto tranny I have. Either way it needs at least a 3" chop and some lake pipes. I enjoy the discussions on the HAMB and come here to research some of the past postings. Thanks to everyone for their time spent to teach us newbies how to make a real, traditional hot rods.
Hey there Winterset. Good to hear from you. I'm east of you in Riverside, IA. My cuz in Monticello has a 51 Ply parts car. The 361 is a great engine but watch out for the shifter cables for the trans. It's best if you use the whole push button shifter with the trans. Craig
Welcome, although you've been lurking so welcome to the HAMB ool. Notice I left out the "p"......... It's great to have ya, and I would shoot for the big block Mopar motor, but that's just me.
Yep, engine, trans, push-button selector, and cables would come from the Newport parts car I have. The Plymouth has an area to the left of the gauges that the push buttons would fit into nicely. With the big block, I would go with a Fatman frame stub and get disc brakes and power steering. If I went that route, I'd probably go for the airbag set up and make it real low like Zeus' car (on the main message board). Luckily, dreaming doesn't cost anything...
