I received my newest copy Hot Rod Magazine yesterday, all I can say is WTF???? That Mag has hit the crapper. I mean I don't like to get stuck in a time warp and am interested in new tec and trends, but really 1,000 hp street motors? How do you hook-up with that much power and do you really need 1,000 hp except to show off your dyno sheets. I guess I've turned into my ol man who used to say to me when I was bragging about my big block Chevy motor "do really need 425 hp?" LOL!

It must be inflation. You need more HP to get the same result these days.

Factory stock cars are producing that now. (Dodge SRT demon 170 for example)
It's not at all hard to to get that much HP nowadays $$$
Tech has evolved so much that a friend built a OT musclecar that produced 1100hp
and the customer complained he couldn't spin the tires.
My friend told him he could take off the modern drag radials and put on regular tires if he wanted to put on a smokeshow.
    Time marches on!

The first 2 issues were shit then the summer issue gave me hope they had gotten their heads out of their butts but apparently they have went backwards again?

I received mine yesterday and I flipped through it. Took about 4 minutes. Big money cars for big money people. Hot Rod issues are theme based now, the latest is street car revolution. Let's push them for a traditional issue. It is "where it all began" after all

I know that there are plenty of hard core car nuts that would never consider anything with a regular carburetor, or run a blower. they build old school looking rides but, run LS Cevy motors. using electronic injection or Turbo charger. so easy to just click a button and find the latest trend for performance. but, as stated above, where can you use super high horsepower on the street? certainly not in commuter traffic.

  12. 1000hp cars in hot rod !!!!!!

    oh the humanity

    where do you enjoye em?

maybe the track, parking lot events, light traffic back roads and occasional red light.

    sounds trad to me

I think I have one more of the quarterly editions left on my subscription- which was a couple years because other mags were cancelled and the balance of those were rolled into a long HR sub. I will not renew.

yeah, 8 second altered wheelbase street cars do nothing for me, either.

    (did you catch the sarcasm?)

If you are interested in new tech and trends it would appear to me that you are on the wrong forum for that....

I’m ‘only’ 40, but have come to the realisation recently that not EVERYTHING is meant for me and if I don’t like it just shrug and move on.

Even if that means things I used to really enjoy.

The world moves on and often to survive, media has to move with the biggest demographic.

I’m just thankful we have such a well established and well run forum like the HAMB where folks can share their niche passion and argue about where oil filters are made ;)

yup, this is where its at these days, every era of hot rodding are guys squeezing out of these cars what their wallet/knowledge will allow....

pretty sure a lot of era correct cars are faster than they were back in the day also...lets get back to the past where we like it:cool:

    Just sayin'
My mind and heart fit perfect with H.A.M.B.
The new Off Topic forum lacks appeal because I am hung up on the youth that I enjoyed.
Surely those days were littered with paper mags.
My neighbor ran a scrap paper warehouse and kept me afloat in a vast selection of publishers.
    One thing is certain.
As the population grows the supply of early iron becomes smaller.

I think what a lot of guys are missing is that in today's world 1000hp is so easy to make that if done half correctly it will drive like a stock automobile unless it's under boost.

  22. I had subscribed for several years starting in 1974. Didn't renew a few years ago and they no longer contact me when I answered them in Farsi Arabic.;)

  23. And stock 300hp+ 4 cylinders are normal

  24. 20241124_143330.jpg Reading the paragraph that starts "On a personal note", in the attached, I can see why there isn't more HAMB friendly content in Hot Rod. The current Editor doesn't seem to have the background or interest.

  25. Hot rod mag was and still is modern hot roding
    Sometimes they remember the past
Isn’t very hard to figure that out

  26. DITTO...Wish they'd bring back Hot Rod deluxe,...that was an excellent mag.

  27. Clearly they should publish a separate magazine specific to each individuals specific taste, then everyone could stop complaining.
