Hey everybody, I've been lurking here for well over a year and finally decided to register. I've been into cars since I was a kid. I can remember cleaning the ET 5-spokes on my dad's '39 Chev street rod back in the late 70's. I learned how to drive a manual trans in his '66 Nova SS that he bought new (and still has). I got my start with a '63 Nova SS in the late 80's when a buddy and I swapped in a V8 / th350 in place of the straight 6 / Powerglide. I sold that car to buy an engagement ring in the early 90's and hadn't had anything but late models until last spring when I bought a '61 Mercury Monterey. I couldn't afford much so what I ended up with is a 28,000 mile 4-door sedan in black with a really cool black and red interior in original and near perfect condition. It's got the 292 V8 with a 3 on the tree. I added dual exhaust, port-a-walls, and some hard to find uni-lug spiders my dad had laying around. I've lowered it via 1 cut coil in the front since the photos were taken. I may go with Astro Supremes and skinny whites this spring. I have no fabrication skills but would love to learn. I'm just your basic office clown that can spin a wrench and digs traditional rods and customs. I envy the talent and craftsmanship of many on this board. Thanks for the great forum.
Welcome. What part of Minneapolis? I grew up in St. Louis Park. I know cabin fever, when April is close, but there is still a crap load os snow on the ground, not cool.
Hey sodas38, I'm in Champlin, an often overlooked little suburb between Brooklyn Park and Anoka. We have a "snow day" today with 12" of snow and high winds last night. More snow coming later today. At this time last week it was nearly 40 degrees and almost no snow. I definitely had the fever and even ordered a few parts for the Merc. Now it looks like it won't be on the road for at least another month. Oh well.
Ah I remember those days. We had the first half of our baseball season indoors. Champlin, use to play a lot of softball out there. Your pretty close to the hot rod haven in Anoka too. I couldn't tell you how many times I have been up through Anoka to hit the junk yards in that area. Welcome to the HAMB.
Welcome to the HAMB man. It's kinda a weird place, but great nonetheless! The car looks good. Jamal (In Minneapolis)
