Greetings all, So i picked up this 56 fairlane in march. Drove to portland from tacoma 2 hr drive on the freeway no issues.. on the way back up a valve was bent somehow.. so got it towed back to the house. Found a 351w out of 1999 f150 and swapped out the older 351w..she runs and sounds great to me at least. This is my first car ive actually worked on. i dont know anything about anything. So issue i have now is finding a shift linkage that will work from the column to the ear selector. The engine is paired with an AOD or c4 . I honestly dont know the difference. But if any one knows what will work i'd much appreciate it. A little about my self. Im very new to this and as i was wrenching on my car i came to realize i should have paid attention to my dad who ran auto repair shop! but im learning as i go and am very excited to have a hobby that i can do at home. Im a single father of two boys. I have 11 years in the army currently stationed at fort lewis washington. On orders to move to fort jackson in december. I installed the lokar shift linkage. it goes thru all the gears now.. but issue im having now is what to do with the detent lever. Ive heard it is not necessary to have the detent lever cable installed. But i drove around the block and the transmission popped out of gear while the engine went into a high rpm. anyone have a fix to this issue? Please help![emoji51] Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Great looking '56! You need to ask technical questions such as this on the main discussion forum instead of the introduction page. More folks will see it there.
