Ok, I've been a member for 5 years but haven't frequented the site in a long time, and was never active. Now that I'm retired and getting into the hobby full-force, I've been reading all the background info and I'm a little confused (not the first time). . . on its face the "period correct" statement describing the website seems clear enough, but then I do a search on "Mustang II" and find a billion posts. Since Pintos and Mustang IIs were a thing of the early to mid-70's, not sure how that can ever fit into the idea of period correct. The '37 Chevy I'm building has a Mustang II front suspension, and even a late 60's Nova rear, so maybe I'm not welcome here. Any input would be appreciated.
I'm in the same boat kinda I'm building a 37chevy pu. It's kind of amazing what some will call traditional or not. In that regard this can be a pretty rough crowd. I try to avoid the drama by not starting a build thread but when I run into a problem I post close up pics and usually get real good help or ideas.hope that helps..... Oh and don't use the r word. Have a good day!!!
Yes, there was a time in hambs past that some things although not period correct was accepted as long as the project was traditionally inspired on the main board. Then stricter guidelines were set for the traditional and custom forums. Now it seems updated transmissions are fine but mention a Mustang 2 and the whole post gets deleted. Post away. But be sure to understand we all have had threads deleted in our tenure here.
A few of my rides are not traditional in any sense of the word. Yet I respect the rules because I consider myself a guest on one of the best sites on the planet. Get a few posts deleted, so what there is too much good stuff going on to get your pants ruffled. Its not rocket science to just read the rules and follow them.
Im new here so im glad i read this post...my 53 gmc half-ton is not really "period correct" it has a 70 model c10 rear end, a 68 292 and a 53 1 1/2 ton trans, 49 doors a 50 cab a 51 bed and a chevy front clip with gmc badging...its what i had laying around the farm...so if im wrong so be it...dream it build it love it...it should only be correct to you
Thanks for the support! I've always felt the heart of the hot rodding hobby was about using what you have and what you can afford, with the goal of making a cooler-looking and hopefully better-driving machine. Heading back to the garage now. It's 15 below zero her in northern Minnesota this morning, it'll take a few hours for the wood stove to ge the garage up to 50 degrees!
.......................You've got the right attitude for sure. This site is just very focused on traditional hot rods and customs. Stick around, enjoy, participate...........the moderators will let you know if you (or any of us) get too far off-topic or off-theme. It's all good as long as we all stay focused.
I am in no way flaming this board or anyone in particular. What this statement is intended to do is to bring clarity to this fine environment we have here. That's because at times "Period Perfect" only applies at the convenience of the person vocalizing it. 350 SBC are not period perfect,351W/ 302SBF are not period perfect taking in account many statements posted referring to" before 1965" 8.8 rear axles are not.... but are accepted it seems... You can take this as you will, but me personally I look past all the strict Period Perfect disciplines... If a poster has mechanical or expertise value then I pay attention to them and support them but at the same time encourage using PP principals. This does not mean I don't appreciate a car or project that exercising PP disciplines but merely accept good craftsmanship as just that...good craftsmanship. After all isn't this one of the 3 reasons we are all here.... to share our craftsmanship, share new ideas, and generally interact with people who love the look of old hot rods? Take this as you will...
The mustang II front suspension and subframes were ok for years but Ryan decided a couple of years ago to try and get everyone to refocus and put a end to the subframe & frame swaps with later model cars. Sure these old threads can be found occasionally but I have noticed if people drag them up and start posting even these old threads disappear. Period correct is hard but encouraged,if your car has a mustang II just don't talk about it and use the hamb as a tool. HRP
