Hello board, My name is Hoss1951, I am from north Fla. I am 55 yrs old retired truck driver. I grew up in a junk yard. Learned how to be a hot rodder from a very good teacher, my Dad. My earliest recollection of his cars was a 46 ford coupe with a bored and stroked 53 merc engine. The first car I helped him build was a 49 ford coupe with a J-2 olds engine when I was 8 years old. Had a hydro built by B&M called a hydro-stick. I have a 51 ford sedan now with a bored and stroked 351W displaceing 408 CI with a toploader 4 speed behind it. Wanting to build a roadster pick-up next. Have a killer 4 cyl engine from a merc-cruiser boat set up, its a 3.5 litre engine. Its sounds good, it has an upgraded cam shaft. The fellow I got it from changed to a V-8. He says the 4 cyl. makes 270 HP. I am going to back it with a powerglide or a 4 speed saginaw. Have a franklin quick change that belonged to Dad, been saving this puppy for over 35 years to build a T-bucket with.
Well welcome. I'd like to build a T with a 4 cylinder. I remember an article in Car Craft, Rod and Custom or maybe something else a long time ago with a few artists conceptions. Mostly used Pinto engines. Bill
Hoss - I have wanted to do a Mercruiser motor for a few years now. My neighbor had a boat he hauled out of a guys yard for next nothing that had one and I fell in love with the look of that motor, he cleaned the boat up and sold it for good money. Do you have to run a trans adapter for this? Do you have to compensate for the angle of the carb since the boat motor sits an angle? BTW - welcome from NE Florida - you must be from the panhandle part?
