Good afternoon H.A.M.B. I've been lurking on and off for a couple years now. The time is finally right for me to join. Here's a quick introduction from my user bio: As far back as I can remember, Pop would tell us stories of his '50 Ford Business Coupe....more often than not, they were stories about the trouble he got into with his '50 Ford. It was the one car he regretted selling. My brother and I learned to drive in Mom's 318 'Cuda, because Pop wouldn't let us near his '70 Chevelle SS. I've been buying, selling, trading and lusting after cars my whole life. After Mom & Pop p***ed away last year we had a little bit of money. After long talks with my wife and kids (who are also car lovers), we decided to look for a Shoebox, and although we are primarily a Chevy Family, we would honor Pop with our own Flathead Ford. We picked up our new 63 year old sedan last week. Now the next chapter begins. We look forward to meeting some of you NorCal'ers and if all works out, we'll have the '49 at Sea Bowl this year. Rough, but running. Thanks, -r
Thank you for the welcome guys. BTW, when Pop p***ed away, we were going thru all the old boxes and found this Merc photo. Mom told us it was his first car. All those years we had never heard of this one (unbelievable to us). Unfortunately, no photos exist of his '50 Business Coupe. We only know that is was black, Baby Moons, ended up with a SBC in it when he blew up the Flathead, and his best friend Norm Troxell(sp?) had a matching one with the stock Flathead in it.
Again, thank you for the welcome. Here are a few photos of our '49. From what I have been able to gather, it's been kicking around the Bay Area for years. If any of you are familiar with it, I'd love to hear any history on the car.
Welcome from Indy...My son and I have built, drag raced and changed the look of my Fairlane together over the last 20 yrs. Best of times and I can't imagine that he would ever sell it when I'm gone. Nice way to honor and remember you pops'. Nice car by the way.
