I'm a retired mechanical/aircraft maintenance and repair engineer and am coming to the end of rebuilding a 1950 Pontiac Streamliner, just need upholstery and carpet. I probably should have joined here a couple of years ago, I may have saved myself some time sourcing parts. I've not gone down the Hokey route but kept the car as stock as possible. Original straight eight 268 cu. in (4.4litre) with 43,000 miles and a hydramatic box, (I think it still needs running-in) Fully rewired for 12volts. I shipped it from Phoenix so it was not corroded, just "patina", which had been sanded back and then sprayed silver by the seller. I bought it 10 years ago with the intention of rebuilding it immediately but family circumstances suddenly changed and it was put on the back burner. After working on it part time for the past 18months, it is now back to a roadworthy condition, fully registered in the UK and first drive on the road was 20th December 2024. It took me a while to understand which car I had bought due to the seller calling it a Silverstreak which I found to be generic for all chieftain models with the 'Silver Streak' down the hood and trunk. We also own a 1954 Airstream Globetrotter trailer, a 1949 Silverstreak Clipper 'Alien Eyes' trailer and a Lotus 7 lookalike kit car (which is for sale). The kit car does 0 to 60 in approx 5 seconds but the Pontiac does 0 to 60 sometime next week....maybe. Guess which one my wife prefers........ I still want a couple of stock parts for the Pontiac so will now start looking through the forums etc.
