I have been browsing HAMB for a few weeks now as I am in the middle of a restoration build and trying to get into custom bodywork and sheet metal fabrication. I am in my late 20s and into 80s and 90s BMWs. I realize that this forum is for hot rodders but this is one of, if not the best, resources on sheet metal fabrication and custom car building that I can find on the internet. I am really looking to learn as much as I can and hope there's a little room for something like this. I have an idea for what I think is a great, doable first project and am hoping it's ok to ask questions about it here.

    Cheers

  2. Matt, welcome aboard.
Be warned that this site is specifically for period correct cars/hot rods/customs from the pre 1965 era.
anything showing "off topic" parts or cars is usually deleted in a matter of minutes. (basically anything that was not readily available before 1965 gets the axe)
If you have questions about metal work and fabrication there are some true artist and craftsman here and it has been my experience that they are more than willing to share their experience and knowledge.
My recommendation would be to ask your questions about a specific problem you are having with your fab work
leaving out the make model and year or simply saying something like "i am having a metal fab problem, i need to join panel X to panel Y blah blah blah." if you need to include a picture make sure it is a close up of only the problem area/work area and is fairly nondescript. If someone asks what its on, you can say my OT ride and hope for the best.
But your best bet is to sell all that BMW crap and use the money to buy a 1930 model A coupe and build a traditional hot rod!!! ;):D:D:D
Good luck which ever way you decide to go.

Exactly what I was going to advise, you cant beat the knowledge you will find here. Keep your questions specific and your project vague and soak up the knowledge.
Who knows maybe you will become a convert.
    Welcome from Colorado.
