Hello everyone, I've been a reader of this board for awhile but finally bought a vehicle that I believe fits within the discussions performed on this board. Mostly I've dealt with domestics from the 1960s to 1970s however have grown a little tired and restless and desired something a little different. I recently acquired a 1949 Dodge Coronet Club Coupe with the Fluid drive three speed manual. Was last registered in 1976! Needs a bit of work and I'm sure I'll be on here a lot seeking advise as I'm unfamiliar with these vehicles. Purchased it from an older fellow who was thinning out his collection. Was referred to to him by a friend who purchased a 1926 Dodge Brothers from him. My surprise came when I showed up with a trailer and we drove it on the trailer by just using a coffee can hanging from the hood to gravity feed the float bowl haha. My plans for the vehicle are nothing radical. Just a refresh of driving components and a little rust repair/interior work. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any tips are greatly appreciated!
Hi & welcome. WOW, that is a real nice coupe specially because it runs & drives. Looks like that paint should buff out real nice & save you a bunch that way. Go thru the gas & fuel system, bleed & refresh brakes for safety, give it a good tune up, likely replace tires before long and drive it. I cannot tell where your rust issues are but if they are all floor related that will not ruin the original exterior paint when you replace them. start a build thread on the hokey *** message board with photo's & keep us updated. That will be a really nice ride. Jimmie
Thank you for the kind words! Yeah I feel lucky with this one. There's some exterior rust but nothing too bad that I've found...yet haha. definitely needs new tires. Surprised the ones on it hold air. First big expense is going to be some new bias plys.
