Hello, Just joined the board. I'm 22, and I've built a 1930 Model A with my dad that is my daily driver. Currently I'm working on a 1952 Ford F1 and have plans to build a 1928 Graham Paige Victoria in the future. From what I've seen there's a lot of nice rides on here. Look forward to reading more about them.
Welcome.... you will learn the gospel of tradtion on here young Skywalker. Get these ideas of fuel injected 2005 Hemi's and other **** out of your mellon... don't succomb to the dark side (of Hawt rodding that is)
I'm still doing my research. GM has some nice crate motors. 355hp-400ft/lbs and a warranty is pretty sweet but the lure of fuel injection is still there. They both work out to be about 5 grand including everything (fuel pumps, wiring harnesses included). Got any ideas for rims? I'm looking for an alloy rim for an 11 inch Mickey Thompson E/T (the tire that all the guys in town are running).
Oh dear. How about a baby hemi in that F1? like a 332 or something. It will probally still be cheaper than a crate motor to rebuild and will be waaaaayyyyy cooler. Make it a real hot rod and not a Boyd-esque fancy jobber. Who chopped the cab?
I can buy a 2004 Dodge Truck writeoff for 5 grand and will still be able to sell the rest for 2-3k, wiring harness would be a 1k and budgeting for other stuff another 1k, so it won't be crazy expensive. Bob Johnson is going to finish the chop on it, I think it will be a 3.5 inch total. Right now it's halfway done and not entirely straight. I do have a whole other cab with perfect seams that may be used for the chop and the extra roof that I got in Barrie. From my measurements so far the front clip will be narrowed three inches as well to make the front wheels fit better. I'm still trying to figure out clearance issues for the rear box and since I don't trust my measurements within a half inch I'm going to go ahead and buy the new box and possibly running boards (smooth steel ones) to make sure the wheels fit and it sits the way I want it to.
wouldnt you guy save time by talkin on the phone sorry f1 the parts in that pic are still not for sale dont take it personaly.
I've given up trying to find out from you where it is, don't worry about it. Maybe someone else may have something constructive to say about my plans. Apparently you don't.
Now don't take this wrong...it isn't meant as a slap or anything, but what your describing is pure modern Street Rod! The HAMB is about traditional style Hot Rods. Both can be built at home but look very different. While HAMBers will allow a fair bit of leeway...using and constantly talking about smoothy running boards, MPI, crate engines, MT tires etc etc is pushing it! Stick around by all means, but broaden your internet search to find like minded street rodders who have a thing for the later styles that you obviously like. There are some great sites out there! I like many different cars but come to the HAMB for my traditional fix. I'd never bring up my billet PRO-STREET Innocenti fetish on the HAMB....some might find it offensive. LoL
Thanks for the post. I have been seeing the same thing more and more lately. Also, I believe it was you who posted before about my front clip being to wide. After talking with some locals, my plan is to narrow the front three inches. While some styling differences may exist between my plans and the majority of the people here, the advice is what I'm here for. I'm trying to find out as much info as possible and I've found this forum valuable so far. From what I've seen so far, this forum has a lot of builders on it, which is different than some other message boards that I've been on. My intent isn't to chrome everything on my car and make it shiny magazine style but to make a reliable well performing vehicle that I can drive every day. My Model A is what I drive to work every day, rain or shine, as long as there is no snow on the ground. I park it outside in the sun everyday, and put 15,000km from May to September. I'm trying to build a reliable and cost efficient (hence smooth running boards which are half the cost of ribbed) truck and using the experience of the people who have already built similar stuff here. I've gone through the troubles of finding parts for an old 302 that's in the Model A so I know what it's like to try to find old parts (which is why I'm looking at newer powertrains, so I can still find stuff in 20 years). I'll try and keep on the traditional side, thanks. -BJ
"Also, I believe it was you who posted before about my front clip being to wide. After talking with some locals, my plan is to narrow the front three inches. " No...I think that was probably someone else...although I do remember something about that now that you mention it! Hmmmm.....CRS! Be carefull in doing that and make a very safe splice in your center steering link as well. You get some great useage from your model A! Excellent! I know what your saying about the parts availability too...but most here are willing to make the sacrifice to preserve the early build styles. This IS a great site...you'll fit in for sure...we just need to keep it on track ya know? Welcome aboard BJ.
This is all my fault... hey F1 build your car how you want and screw whatever everyone else says. Hopefully the Hamb will get the Boyd poison out of your head and the traditional REAL hot rod juices flowing. Either way that truck is going to be rad (even if it is fluffy, shiny, fuel injected and reliable)
