I was tired of all the intro posts on the main page. I'd rather read about some dude's frustrations with a starter solenoid too close to his header than read some FNG's life story. Shoot me. I dare ya. So, we now have a sub-forum for all FNGs to post their life story. All new users will be required to post in that forum first... or they will face some bad punishment... I dunno... cam shaft to the crotch... piston to the forehead... some bad ****. Secondly, all new users are forced to fill out their user profile. All you old folks should take the time to do it now as well. It's easy. Check mine for an example. P.S. This is just a test. If this doesn't work out I'll go back to the old school way of doing it.
Ok may be you do not want to hear this from a new guy but if you do not want to hear about the new guys intro in the message board why would anybody want to go some where else to read them? Why not just keep it here or put a space for an intro in the user profile. Maybe no intro in the user profile no posting. Just an idea.
I can only speak for myself, but I probably only ever read about 5% of the intros as it was, and seriously doubt I will ever check the intro forum to keep up with new guys' intros. Seems to me, most everyone here probably agrees with you, Ryan: they don't want to read intros, and with a new seperate forum, probably won't... Which begs the question: If no one's gonna read them, why make people post them?
Awwww man, now where's the fun in THAT??? I doubt I'd go to another page to read intros...especially if that's all there is there!! I think that's part of the fun of the HAMB...most of the FNG's found out about how the HAMB worked on the main page...that kept most of them in line until they had something interesting to post! Sorry, I don't agree with what you've done...but...it ain't my board and I'm just here as a guest. I do agree with the profile deal tho...that was needed. R-
Kinda the same reason it's good for a 'parts for sale section' and not having them included in the 'MAIN' arena.........interesting information, and can be of ***istance but you dont want to continually have it shoved in ya face.... Thanks Ryan. Cheers, Drewfus
Cuz some folks like to know who they are talking too and enjoy reading them... From what I understand, it goes down like this: Old fart sees a ***le that interests him. He clicks on it and starts reading it, but does not recognize the name. Said old fart then gets his ******* in a wad. "What the ****? Who's this clown?" He then clicks on "show all users posts" link and finds the intro post. If there is an intro post present, the old fart reads up on it and makes a judgement call - clown or next coming of Stu Hillborn? If there is no intro post, old fart attacks FNG with lots of profanity and snide comments. The end. Ohhh... And Roger, if it destroys culture or doesn't work I'll change it back - promise.
ha ha ha ha! This iis some funny ****. I can't remember the last time Ryan was this fiesty! Good **** Ryan!
I like it, and it would seem that several newbies have already used it.... I like the fact that you now HAVE to fill out something in the profile too Thanks Ryan. Dave
I like the idea, it will keep a little less drama on the main board. If you want to pick on someone, go kick your dog.
Seems like yer gettin' kinda corporate, Ryan, what with subcategories etc. Just a thought. You asked. I liked it the old way.
Nawe... If I was turning corporate I'd have to stop saying "****" and "****" so much... All I'm doing is making our barrier to entry a little tougher. BTW fellas - all new people are REQUIRED to fill out all the fields in their profile - they can't register if they dont.
I dig it, keeps the worthwhile posts, both of them, from dropping off the main page so fast. This gives the intro readers the opportunity to do so with out making the dudes that could care less have to sift through the muck and mire. Ryan's my hero.
Ryan Just a request from a FNG'r can the cl***ified section be broken up to FS/FT and WTB Ok Ill just shut up now.. (Bowing lowly in Ryan presence)
