Hi everyone, I'm Ken. I just joined the H.A.M.B and I could really use some help with a problem I'm having with my 1990 Chevy Suburban. First though, a little about myself. I'm a 54-year-old single, never married white male. I live in central Florida and have been here since I was not quite 4 years old. My Dad was a diesel mechanic and welder. I should clarify that and say that he specialized in diesels and heavy equipment but he could fix anything and when he fixed something, it stayed fixed! But anyhow, I learned a lot about mechanical work from my Dad while I was growing up. I ended up going into the paint and body aspect of automotive work, starting out in a p+b supply store, then moving into the shops first as a painter's helper and moving up to painter, bodyman, and finishing my career in that line of work doing heavy collision repair, rebuilding totals, cutting cars in half and putting them back together again. So I'm not exactly a novice when it comes to working on cars. I have to say that although I do know a fair bit about it, I hate mechanical work! It seems that no matter what you're trying to fix there's always something in the way! I also want to say that although I do know a fair bit about it, I am not a mechanic and have never claimed to be one. Having said that, I have fixed things that people calling themselves mechanics weren't able to. I do my own mechanical work because I'm now disabled, surviving on Social Security and simply can't afford to pay someone else to do it for me. And also because the few times I have paid others to do mechanical work for me, I had bad experiences. Next post is the problem.
Hi Ken, and welcome. That's a great intro. But this is a traditional Rod and Custom site. So we never post anything newer than 1965 on here. Okay for your intro. But we do history, and vintage Hot Rods only. They { the mods } will delete rat rods, street rods, and post 1965 cars and parts. Just check out the site rules at the top. This is a great place. Lots of cool and talented people on here. Enjoy your HAMB time. Ron......
Nice intro, and you posted in the correct section but as Ron said we are a 65 and earlier hot rod & custom site. That aside, Welcome. HRP
