New member, the Coal Cracker on the Coast

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by Jack Thomas, Sep 19, 2007.

  1. Grew up in north eastern PA. Been a drag racing fan since the late 50's. First event was at local aiport and 57 Chevies were running in Super Stock. Worked at Pocono drag lodge 1967 and 68 seasons. Timmy Richards and Joe Amato were regulars there. Track closed in 1972. Paid tribute to those days by lettering Pocono Drag Lodge on the door of my 47 Ford rat rod truck. It has an Oliver grill, small block MoPar and cab stacks with lime green wheels and trim. Built to drive, see you on the road. Been all the way to Beaver Springs and Brooklyn NY this summer.

I raced PDL in 66 thru 68. I raced a 56 Chevy with a 301 cubic inch motor 3speed trans and 411 rear end. The class I ran P/stock if I remember right. The motor was built at the auto shop at Tech high school. The car was will known around Scranton and Wilkes Barra area. I loved to race Mustangs. I would love to see PDL make a come back. I still have family in Scranton and fly back from San Diego to see them. My next visit I will try to make it up to the track. I would also like to know if there is a movement to reopen the track. I would love to help were I can.
