Hi guys, new to the forum here and wanted to introduce myself, I live in Montana, been working on cars and bikes forever. I mostly do body work and paint, but usually just prefer to do classics, Camaros, Chevell's, GTO's and etc... I have a few old cars myself, and I am also a proud new owner of a 1954 Lincoln 2 Door Hard Top Sport Coupe. I just picked her up from a neighbor lady who lost her husband last winter at the age of 86. He had the car for the last 30 some years, and it is in pretty good shape, minus the motor, and the mice eating up the interior, other than that all the trim is there and in excellent shape, still has the original paint, and no rust issues to speak of. I'll post some photos as soon as I learn how. The dash is great and so is the headliner, which is surprising after all these years. I might be looking for the 317 motor so just thought I'd put the word out. She has a bunch of motor parts in sheds and the old shop, but not sure if the 317 is there. I did see the air cleaner in a shed, but didn't know it was for the Lincoln until I did some research. So there is a chance she still has it, her son is coming up from Missouri in July to help her sort things out. Well, sorry for the long introduction, but I'm sure glad I found this site, and I hope I will be able to share some knowledge as well. Rock on!!
Welcome...lotsa good guys here willing to help any way they can and a few dicks who look to start fights whenever they can...heed the former and laugh at the later and you'll have a great time. Gorgeous 68 Firebird by the way. Had a primo 67 RS/SS Camaro for awhile, but always loved the Pontiacs.
Welcome to the site. That's a nice looking Lincoln. I had a '54 sedan several years ago. Good luck with it...
Thanks Bruce, Ron and Lebowski, I look forward to the experience, and sharing of our stories. I wasn't too sure about buying the Lincoln but it is such a cool car I couldn't pass it up. I probably won't get to work on it for quite sometime with other projects going on. Nice Lincoln Lebowski....some day. Ron, I've had the Firedird for 28 years now, it has 40,000 original miles 26,000 when I got her, bought her from my high school buddies mom and dad in 1988. I let it sit for about 15 years, (after my kids cut up the top, that's another story) and I've since restored her and repainted the candy apple red. Did a little bit of partying in that one back in the day.
Change your avatar fast before all the Grandpa Simpsons see it and come after you with their canes. I just keep my head down and try to stay on their good sides, I only started actually posting when I got my new Iphone, a lot easier to have an internet fight with a super fast Iphone to cut and paste for you. There are a lot of smart guys here, millions of posts to search through for specific info.
Hi there Clunker, took your advice and changed my avatar, this is my 38' Chrysler Royal, needs a little bit of work.
Welcome to the HAMB, Toby.........while I mostly just read "what's going on", it does keep me entertained during the rainy times of the year.........nice rides...........
Cool, looks like you got it in time! This is the best website if you like cool old cars, if you are on a smartphone the app is great, really intuitive. Every day there are threads that are really interesting to read and keep up with. The "parts for sale" section is awesome. There are really knowledgable people who will help with your questions, others are really friendly and supportive. Most are curmudgeons that love to admonish, yank eachothers' chains and argue but after you read enough posts you see they have good hearts, and you kinda get them, and they really are good old guys, if you listen they have interesting stories to share. Just keep in mind this is THEIR place to hang out and discuss traditional hot rods, old cars (pre-1964), and customs. They generally hate rat-rods, street rods, muscle cars and new cars, politics are a no-no as well (good thing too). So as long as you don't mention or post about those things you'll be alright. (I like that other stuff too, there are other sights for that, those sites just are not as interesting as the Jalopy Journal) I used to just read posts and used the sight for reference for years, the negativity and bullies turned me off. I gave it another chance and felt the same way. I recently gave it another chance and now find it really enjoyable. I just try not to make waves, keep my yap shut mostly, and it is a lot of fun to keep up with the threads that interest me. It's a bit like going to hot rod school. I like your Lincoln and your 38 Chrysler, great cars, people here would love pics and stories, give it a shot. They especially like ongoing build threads. Take care
Thanks guys for your comments, my Camaro/Firebird stuff will stay on the other sites, well mostly, but only if asked about. Anyway some of you know I just picked up the 54 Lincoln from the (true story) little old lady up on the hill. Well the car came without the 317 motor but it did have the tranny in her still. So she is having an estate sale, and moving from the country by me, into the city. Her two sons came from out of state to help her with things for the sale, so anyway she called me last night and said her two boys found the motor and some extra parts for the Lincoln!! I am totally jacked, I am going to pick it up tonight after work. I hope everything is there, and I am sure I will need some advice on things. It would be awesome to keep this car as original as possible. I hope I can fill you all in tomorrow. Thanks, Toby
