I just wanted to say, hey, glad to be here. I am in OKC and have a 55 Ford Victoria straight axle g***er project under construction. It is chevy powered, so you might as well know I am not a purest...I just get er done the best way I can. I had the bullet and the car...so I stuck them together. I hope to learn more about the car I am building and will try to contribute to this group's threads. I am mostly a racer...but with all the cars I have built I have a broad knowledge of how to get things to work that don't want to. I hope to make new friends so PM me and I will write back. Zilla.
Good to have you on board. I was raised by a hard-core drag racer, and went just the opposite direction....and tend to keep my stuff as stock appearing as I can. But man, do I love the smell of AvGas, burnout smoke and cigarettes all mixed together. (I know...it's weird) This is one of the more respectful groups on the HAMB and you'll find that there are no dumb questions here....we all try to help.

I don't think a guy building a g***er from a Victoria needs to worry much about being called a purist... Welcome aboard! As Rusty said before, when you have questions just ask away. Don't worry about it being dumb or that it might have been asked before. We won't send you to "Search Hell"...unless that's truly the best place to find an answer. We're here to help if we can. And, as he also mentioned, the '52-'56 Ford Social Group is a "flame-free zone" where, as a group, we discourge bad manners and keyboard duels. If you need drama, there's plenty on the main board. Send us some photos of your project, okay, and roll out those questions. PS: Just looked at your profile. Man, that motor is bigger than you are!
Welcome to this great group! You'll have fun here. Get some pics on here, I can't wait to see it! Sounds like a fun project!
Welcome to the group! I grew up in the "G***er" generation so I really like your build, keep posting pictures of your progress!
You guys could have probably save me a lot of time...I am running ft ans rear discs. So I wanted a master cylinder that would bolt in that would be disc-disc. Nothing wanted to fit...so I bought an aluminum Corvette deal from speedway and with a little shorting of the rod...it bolted right in. That is how I have had to do things so far...trial and error...first Ford racer and all. I will stick a picture at the top if I can...I have a few build pic on my home site that I can move over. Thanks for the welcome...Ford Forever...just really excited. Zilla.
Just joined! I'm from Minnesnowta, donchaknow! You can see my pics at 1954ford.com Looking forward to gaining as much as I can for my build. Luckily it still runs and moves. Unfortunately, the salt and outside storage by the PO have taken their toll.
I have built a lot of dual purpose cars in the past...when I got the street rod deal out of my system. These days here...in OKC you can not go out alone for fear of having your car stolen. You can literally be killed for your wheels...lost a good friend a couple years ago...4 guys wanted his wheels. They followed him into a large gas station...asked for his keys...he gave them to him and he said...take it...then they shot him to death. They do this bump deal where they hit your rear bumper at a stop light...when you get out they take your car by force. Leave you sitting on the curb. When we go to the races we caravan with 6-10 cars. Some safety in numbers. Next year I am going to start lessons to get my conceal and carry permit. I am a peace loving guy...but I am not going to get shot while I am unarmed. At least that is the way I feel about it today.
I have a kind of funny header story. I started out my project by buying a Speedway tubular engine mount and I put a 460 together for it (sitting in the corner now). I wanted fender well headers. I was talking to a buddy one day and he said that the BBC had about the same spacing on the tubes...and all you would have to do is cut off the flanges and reshape the tubes and weld on 460 flanges. So I ordered a set of BBC fender well headers just like the ones that are on it now from Speedway...cut off the flanges...and sure enough the spacing is 5" between tubes and 15" overall...460 and BBC are almost identical. I had one header ready to weld up when I cut the mount out and put the BBC in. I was lucky to find a guy who wanted my header parts. So that is it...kinda cool, huh. Learn something every day. Never would have thunk it. Now all I got to do is sell the 460 and that whole deal will be done. I even sold the tubular mount that I cut out. I had a C6 behind the 460 so I do still have a trans mount that I made. I may have that one for a while. Well...so much for my funny story. Zilla.
Hey Zilla, I wonder how many guys on here have a conceled weapons permit? I have one.... just in case.....never needed to tell anyone yet to back them down..... but you never know what's around the corner....
My dad was the Director of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation - 33 years a cop. I grew up around firearms...but never cared for them or owned one...not ever. Now my sister was the first female cop in Kansas and the first female detective. She can shoot as well as my dad. When dad died 5 years ago I inherited his nickel plated snub-nose Colt 38. That was his service revolver for a long as I can remember. When they issued him a long gun it went to the trunk and he packed the 38 under his left arm. I plan on getting it out of my sock drawer and buying some bullets for it. I think I can figure out where the bullets go in for them to come out the barrel...I hear these things are dangerous. Good thing I am going to get lessons, huh.
