Just a few words tonight to introduce myself. Old time hot rodder going back to the early fifties, dis***embling and cleaning parts for my dad who was a Ford mechanic/machinist/hot rodder. My earlist memories were of old Fords and Mercs with body mods, rolled and pleat interiors, speed equipment, hollywood mufflers and my mother pleading for something newer that didn't make "noise" when accelerating and downshifting. (Oh how I loved the sound of those twin steelpacks!) I ran flatheads in my coupes up until the late '60's when I finally gave in to a "Mouse". But I stuck with dropped I-beams and tubes until the late '80's when I built my first car with a "Stang II". I'll cut to the chase.....I'm looking for anyone who cruised "Skips" in suburban Chicago in the early '60's and might remember a guy who was known as "Beaver" (don't remember his name) who had a shop in Des Plaines, Illinois. He was a member (or maybe the president?) of the "Absent Angels" car club. In '63 or '64 he finally completed building his '36 Ford Custom Coupe (painted blue) which had sat unfinished in a corner of his shop for years. He won a top award, if not "Thee Top Award" at a show in Indianapolis, Indiania. Any of you guys remember any of this and what may have happened to the "Beaver"? Also, I know that the Skips annual reunion is held in Greyslake, IL but wasn't the original Skips that I remember cruising located on Rosell Ave in Maywood, IL or maybe it was Rosell, IL?
Welcome I'm also kinda new. I'm not sure how much traffic new introductions get ,so I would post your question in the General Discussion area. If anyone knows it would be these Guys ,the knowledge here is very impressive. Good Luck
Hmmmm... Beaver? I have a lot of fond memories of the Beaver... but I think this is the wrong site to talk about it here J/K I think Bufords right about where to post it. Welcome
