New (old speed shop) sign for my backyard.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kiwi Kev, Jul 10, 2009.

  1. I lived at the Service Center in Compton on Atlantic. Loved that one and the one in Buena Park.

  2. Sounds like your sign needs its own awning or roof to keep it in the shade..

I think it also need whrly gig wheels so there is motion too or a chute tat pops out and retracts good luck

That sure brings back some memories. I used to go to the one in Compton on Atlantic back in the day when it was safe to go there. Bought the instruments I put in my '32 3 Window there back in '58.

  4. Yes, it is lucky that it is getting mounted on the shady side of the hedge/fence. It bulges with heat, hope it doesn't crack. Or maybe I don't really care, it was cracked in two when I got it.

  5. 58! I didn't realize they had been around that long, or was it a different name back then?

    Very Cool!

I've been after my engine builders old sign for 5 years or so. They took it down at least 10 years ago, and its just sitting beside the building. Maybe one of these days he will let it go...

Me and my StingRay buddies use to hang around the Service Center Oxnard on Saviers in the late 60's early 70's. My Mom worked at the bowling Alley next door(T-Bowl). Drove the sales guys crazy jumping our bikes out front, begging for free stickers(moon,bell,M/T etc.) and shaking the penny candy machine all day long. We loved staring at the hot motors on the engine stands. Remember seeing Haulin*** 56 Chev. and Vics willy's(I think) way back then. Lots of Jacked-Up cars in and out all the time. I got some of their stuff also, around here somewhere.

Salem Speed Shop (Oregon) is still goig. Talk about a timecapsule. Opened in 1950 and stiil going. were talking original 60's speed parts stillon the shel. this guy is like 87 years old. Basicaly like meeting history. Names like Lou Sentor, Vic Edelbrock Jr, Tay Offenhauser, Aaron Fenton, Hirschel McGriff and Bill Muncey have walked through his door.
