Looking for a new paint gun.
The touch up gun I've been using for motorcycle tanks is great, but doesnt go far when doing bigger projects. I might use this new one 5-6 times a year so not looking to drop a ton of cash for a top o the line model.
    Looking for suggestions.

Eyeing this one from TCP, anyone used this setup? opinions on it?

Willing to look at others as well if anyone has suggestions. Something all around. Have a HF gun for primer and nasty stuff. Have an old pressure pot of dads that I use for flake. So a gun that would shoot base/single stage and clear would be what its main job would be

Put 10 painters in a room and watch the answers fly....Sata always is a favorite...expensive, but quality and they work. Devilbiss....is like a wanna be Sata...i.e like a Sata but cheaper...I like the new Iwatas...They will all work well in the right hands.

  3. I faced the same dilema last year when I painted my car-I ended up buying a 'Tekna Copper' gun. It came with two tips-one for color(1.3mm) and one for clear(1.2mm) I am not an experienced painter-but it did a good job for me.

I don't mean to start a debate, but I was in the market for a paint gun not to long ago. I ended up buying a Devillbiss finishline and a Sata (can't remember the model but it was twice the price as the Devillbiss). I hated the Santa. It was poorly built the threads were ruff, the body was casted out of some poor material, and was not impressed with how it sprayed. Ended up giving it to my dad, he uses it to shoot primer. I am very happy with my Devillbiss. Sprays well, seems to be built well.

Yeah, I know its asubject of many opinions. Dont want to throw out 300 or more on a gun thats hardly used. I realize the set shown above is probably pretty low end.
As all I'd like to get off as cheap as possible, but I suppose I'd be OK dropping 150ish on a gun.

You won't be disappointed with a Tekna. Comes with 1.3 and 1.5 needles to do a good job on base and clear.

You will need at least two different size guns or tip/needle/nozzles for shooting base coat , clears and single stage paint. like a 1mm for clear and 1.2mm for base and single stage. You can get one gun and a second set of nozzle, needle and fluid tip. Sata, walcom, devilbis, sharpe are all good guns.

  9. Bought the TCP 3gun set and was very disappointed. Had to use up the spare parts almost as soon a painter started painting, then tore other gun apart to finish. My opinion would be to get a better quality gun !!!

I've been using a Sharpes Cobalt HVLP with a 1.3mm tip for several years with real good results, was around $125 when I bought it. I have shot single stage, base clear and primers with it and just adjusted the gun for the different materials. Still have my old Binks hanging in the garage but haven't touched it since I bought the HVLP.

How about buying a larger version of the brand gun you are currently using since you are familiar with it and get good results..

The one I'd been using was a knock off no name job.
Got a used Iwata LP400 from a friend. I'll be using it for the first time tomorrow.
