These are forged wiseco pistons. Brand new out of box. This is the second one I have found that's damaged. One was replaced already. Anyone else had any issues with something like this? I don't feel comfortable installing this in a new build.

As for where the damage came from ???

As for usage, just make sure that no metal is "above" the parent surface, it'll be fine.
A little "light", fine file touch up work and a touch with some 600 grit sand paper to smooth it, the engine will never know the dents are there.

If that's the only mark you will ever have on that piston you are doing fine...Light sanding and run it...I would....

I know your Wiseco’s weren’t cheap and that shouldn’t be expected but I’d run that. The piston is probably .010 smaller diameter in that area so you can expect no piston to wall contact there.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to see if I can't get a replacement first, and if not I'll smooth it out and run it. I appreciate it guys.

I'd think that was from handling after the manufacturing before it got put in the box. I agree with the others in that it is more cosmetic than anything else. It still needs to be brought to Ross's attention though as it may be due to how someone there is handling them.

Looks like it was a deburring mishap, it should be fine to run.

Am I seeing things? What's with the top ring land in the first pic? Lippy

Saw that. What are the marks on the top edge of the piston to right of center? Looks like it was hit by a punch. Clearer picture would help.
