Sold my '34 and decided to get somthing a little more "kid friendly" so I can take my daughers to the cruises, shows, etc... Picked up this super-solid '54 Customline Victoria. Perfect body with one repaint over 20 years ago. Great stainless , ****ty chrome. Has a 351 W and a c4 already swapped in. I'm stoked to get crankin on my first Kustom build. Already lowered it, tossed on some wide-whites I had laying around, got some Olds tailights, and started to remove emblems. Big Plans for this winter!!!
Looks like a good start. Go to the 1954 ford club they have lots of info on their forum, I joined & have a 54 merc 2dr ht im gettin ready to start. They also have a club with a newsletter. Good Luck
Like those 54's my friend had a 54 hardtop he bought in 58 from a guy who brought it East from CA. It was light met. blue with scallops over yhe whole body, and lowered all around by tourching the springs. The first state inspection they made him put new spring all around, that was a bummer. We sorta liked the bouncing on our rough roads at that time.
always loved those cars..growing up,the baddest guy in the neighborhood drove several 52-54 Fords, always hardtops...always sounded bad***,too...I was the skinny 10 year old sitting on his bike, watching him drive by every day..I still want one
That's a great start. Those cars have a sick profile. Good luck with the bulid. Always need to have a rod for the whole family to ride in.
I'm using the Jimmy Vaughn car (pictured below) as inspiration. Going to float the grill and throw on some chrome smoothies with bullet caps. Any thoughts on color? I'm thinking a copper color (like pic) or possibly a burnt orange metallic - not candy orange - something a little darker. As my old college prof used to say: "Any thoughts, comments, critisisms, whitasisms?" Also: looking for a set of '54 Mercury rear fender trim like on the Vaughn car. I like them better than the Ford gravel guards. Anyone have a set?
Now that is a good car for a mild custom . Looks to be in good shape too . That Windsor will carry you and your family for a long time . they are great engines and parts are easy to get . If you plan on keeping for a long time and enjoy long trips , you might consider putting in a AOD down the road . The overdrive will really help you save some gas on the highway and the valve train too ! I always liked the Fords from 1953-1957 the most ! I have a 55 Fairlane that I am working on now . As for color , how about a dark blue ? RetroJim
I know about the kid friendly car thing. My 29 roadster will be tough to put my 6 month old into. I guess it's time to start working on my 61 bubble top Impala. You got a real nice starting point, looks great!
retro... Thanks for the info. I'm already thinking about the AOD. I need to do some research. I've heard it is pretty easy conversion - just rear ****** mount is further back? Also heard drive shaft will not require any mods - is this true? As far as dark blue - I've had several blue cars and am really looking for something different. When I brought this one home my wife commented "another blue car".
My favorite custom is the Gary Howard/Jimmy Vaughn '54 done in white with a silver pearl top. The hard tops are ****ing incredible!!! I would raise the front an inch and get some new Bias Plys and call it done for a bit. Then start doing little things at a time and get those daughter out for ice cream in that thing. It's awesome!!!
