Hey Everyone! I have been reading your guys stuff for a while, so I thought I should post some pics of my new project I just got about 2 weeks ago. Enjoy
thats a tough call, kinda nice to cut up to much....update the brakes, put a newer stovebolt in it, trans rear...and drive the hell outta it, find something more rough to cut up...please...
Nice score! Got to love those chevrolets.A coupe similar to yours took top smallblock honors at the races at MAM last sunday. He was blowing out 103 mph runs in the 1/8th.The coupe was running on the stock frame and front suspension,4 bar chevy rear. You have great potential for a killer hot rod.build it how you want it,the 6 would be my first choice.A 261 if you can find one.Later....
Thanks Guys! I am going try and do as little cutting as possible. I am still amazed at how little to no rust the car has. My fist job is to take care of the breaks and update the front end.
You're lucky, that car is in nice shape. How is the wood? That is one of the biggest challenges we face with our chevy's... the wood in my '33 is rotten, and a good portion of the cab structure is supported by it. Some call our cars "termite nests", that's probably why they're more rare than a ford coupe nowadays. Wood kits are expensive but available if you want to replace it. I'm just going to rebuild with metal, at least on the floor and door jambs, might keep some of the wood overhead just for nostalgia sake.....ha. Gary
Surprisingly the wood is in great shape. The car was stored in a machine shed from 1967 to 1999, when it was moved to a garage. So it has been safe from the elements for the last 40 years. There is a little wear and tear on the stringers in the roof, mainly from a mouse that got in to the head lining and the seat. But compared to a lot I have come across in cars of this age, this is minor.
Buddy, these cars are the last of the survivors! It's amazing how sentimental I'm getting as I get older, but like my 1930 Pontiac, I just can't believe that these old cars have remained unmolested by man or nature. I have seen some unbelievably nice rods built from such cars as you've got there, but sometimes I just don't know if we are doing the right thing by not saving a few of em. Don't get me wrong-I'm a rodder too. So I can't sit here and say don't do it. But, how many can be left? I know some day guys are gonna start restoring-to-original old rods so maybe if we don't do anything to them that can't be undone, huh? I can see it now-tech articles on how to UNchop!! Have fun with it, whatever you do! Great car and keep us posted!
Yah man, that 30 chevy at MAM was bad ass. I like that he used the stock front suspension very cool. Hey 30, that is a nice ride you got, I dig it thanks. Sticks
I agree with Rarerodder, I'm getting pretty sentimental, if my coupe was in super good shape I would have a tough time cuttin' it up. Luckily, it looked like this:
For you guys that are getting sentimental, you can put your mind at ease. I am not going to be cutting this one down. I am going to do some updates to make it a little more road worthy, redo the interior (which has taken the biggest hit from father time) and give it a fresh coat of paint. Also, going to modify the inline 6 a bit to get a couple of more horse out of it. Overall though, I think I will get a little more head turning keeping the frame and body the same.
This is the coupe that was running 103 mph 1/8miles at the old geezer drags.I really like a chevy hot rod.
